I`m so excited.  I just registered SandDollarRetreats.com and now it`s time to find a logo designer!  Thanks for the help!

regarding ".biz" domains, we always underscore the value of providing a ".com" whenever possible just because that`s the norm, that`s what people remember easiest, and ".biz" makes the company seem too new.

having said that, ".biz" won`t kill you! it just doesn`t have the advantages of ".com"

great work, everyone!

Actually  Rich a .biz address might be more of a headache to some business`s. Many spam filters deployed around the world actually rate a .biz domains as a higher spam possibility than a .com address (look at your spam assassin tags). Now this isn`t a big concern for most people but if you are sending out marketing material via email those extra points might be the difference between the inbox and the spam box.
Another word of advice on domain names, avoid the .info completely. This TLD has been so poorly managed that just about every spammer on the net has one (because they were free, and now are only $2 to get).

If you send a lot of emails or send even a newsletter out i highly recommend checking the content with this free tool from lyris:

and if you send a lot of email think about signing up for a service from someone like return path:

StayAtOregonBeach.com is available

The generic top level domain names were supposed to mean something.

.com was for global commercial organizations

.net was a network provider (your ISP)

A number of new generic top level domains have been introduced in recent years because the .com domain has become so crowded. The .biz domain was introduced for businesses that had a legal claim to the name (i.e. company name). I`m not sure they even try to enforce that now.

Give it another 5 years and no one will care if you`re .com, .biz  or one of  the other new domains (http://www.iana.org/gtld/gtld.htm).

Another option might be to use a .us domain (the country domain for the United States).

I would agree that the .biz is becoming more and more popular these days.

however I did check and did notice that www.orbeachrental.com is available. I realize that it abbreviates the state but if you want a .com it may be the way to go. I hope that helps.

One thing most people don`t realize is its easy to get a great domain name. Just think outside the square. For example 1800flowers.com used thier vanity number as their website name killing two birds with one stone. A killeer vanity number and easy to remember website name.

You could do the same thing for your rental site call it www.1800beachrent.com etc..

Now that I have posted this, I am sure the SuN community is going to make a run on vanity URLs..lol

One thing to note if you purchase a vanity URL, make sure you get the vanity phone number from At&T also. they are good at working with you to find a toll free vanity url for you that matches your business. I got the last phone number with "groove" in it...

Ryan,

How`s the website coming?  We are Colorado transplants to Idaho.  Everyone here says the Oregon coast is a `must do`.  We`d love to check you out when you`re up and running!  Just based on the local `chatter`, Idaho would be a great place for you to target advertising to.  We`re a bit short on ocean shores out here....;-)

Okay after researching my classifieds business idea, I`ve come to the conclusion that the market probably wouldn`t bear it.  Now I have an idea for a vacation rental website that lists available rentals.  I am getting stumped on coming up with a clever / unique web domain name.  It seems all the good ones are being used, but I`m not giving up.  The rentals are located on the oregon coast.  I was thinking of:  StayAtTheBeach.com, EnjoyTheBeach.com, and others.  Any ideas?  I know there are other vacation rental sites, but I have some unique ideas to make it better.

When we select a domain name we should see that it is  related to the business and easy to remember. It should be catchy and without much punctuations.I suggest you can name your website as Staynearbeach.com and I also checked that the name is available. Once you select the domain name for the business you should look in for a good and reliable domain name provider who suits your budget.I would recommend you to get your domain name from  9cubehosting.com as I find they provide domain services at low cost and a good free package which would be economic for the user.

Try different prefixes/suffixes... like up-, pro-, -central, -hq etc. Is really irritating that most of the names you come up by brainstorming are usually taken. And not just taken, but reserved/for sale.
