Yikes! Having a bit of PR is usually a good thing, but it sure does bring out the sharks. So far I have ALMOST been talked into a plaque commemorating my recent magazine mention, and I got a call from an "Associate Producer" of a national TV show (their words). I will not be responding! I did a search and found some job ads where these "associate producers" are on commission. Their job ad says:

We are hiring for the position of Associate Producer for a national television show. We believe in an exciting office atmosphere that encourages creativity and productivity. We expect our associate producers to be creative, money-motivated, and fun to work with.

Responsibilities & Duties include:
-Researching prospective companies for sponsorship opportunities
-Phone work for research and sponsorship
-Follow-up and closing sales leads
-Creative Input for storyboards and scripts
Requirements Include:
-Inside Sales preferable, but not required
-Excellent Oral Communication skills
-Highly Motivated Attitude
-Immediate, Full-Time Availability
-NO PHONE FEAR!
-Basic Computer and Internet Knowledge
-Local Applicants Only
Compensation Includes:
Base Salary
EXCELLENT Commission Structure and bonuses
Health and Dental Benefits
Opportunity for Advancement

We are seeking self-motivated individuals who can handle responsibility without micro-management. If you`re a money-motivated phone pro with a creative streak who wants to enjoy what you do for a living, we`re waiting to hear from you!

My favorite part is where they also mention that a person can have "less than 1 year" of job-related experience. That`s just what I want in someone who is going to produce a show about/for me.  I think it`s so pathetic that companies like this are preying on entrepreneurs. I bet many don`t have the sense to look these companies up before taking the bait.

I think the excitement of a National TV show calling an entrepreneur overshadows their thinking. It is great that you were cautious. That is what makes a great entrepreneur.

Just goes t`show ya, that spam was invented long before the word "spam" was invented! :-) Get your name or business name out into the world, and sure as shootin`, you`ll get junk mail.

Yeah, it`s funny how the need for someone with a "creative streak" comes way after all of the sales stuff. You would think a "producer" would have to be creative first.
