Hi guys/gals

I have been a passive listener for quite some time and it just made sense to post on this forum my first note.

Tired after 3 days of booth work for a customer at the CES in Las Vegas I realized that as difficult as it may look at times; it’s being an entrepreneur what wakes me up in the morning. The challenges, the successes and failures… I am addicted to this as others might be at coffee, and I know coffee: I am Colombian.

Getting there is half the fun!

Have a great day everybody.

Hello Ender,

From one SUN newbie to another, "Welcome to SUN"!

Agreed!  I too am (as I think everyone else here is) motivated by my business and the challenges that it provides.  Good luck with your business.

Funny, isn`t it, that most (if not all) entrepreneurs would never consider themselves gamblers. Nor would casino players consider themselves entrepreneurs.

I thought about that for awhile, some time ago. I don`t like to play certain types of board games, but I don`t mind others. I dislike those where a roll-of-the-dice develops the outcome. I like those where my own strategic thinking and skills, including psychological ones such as bluffing, come into play.

I see three categories of people, in this context. There are the risk-averse who want a steady paycheck, don`t like changes, and get anxious when things are out of control. Oftentimes, it seems these end up swinging into the second category.

That second type of person wants a quick fix, doesn`t believe they can change the world, life is random chance. So they take up gambling, play the lotto, or pull the handle on the slot machine. They`re looking for a quick fix, and an instant solution to their single biggest problem: money.

The third type, the entrepreneur, is also a gambler. But I believe the unique attribute is a belief that "life is what you make of it." Entrepreneurs take risks, worry and panic, have all the adrenaline rush of a game-player, and hope to win big. Knowing they can also lose big is the difficult part, but they proceed anyway, hoping or confident in their own skill and resources to affect the final outcome.

From what I`ve read, willingness to risk goes hand-in-hand with shyness, and they seem to have a strong genetic component. Yet we also hear about people who are painfully shy, who overcome that with determination and willpower, and go on to be successful.

It`s interesting to me, to contemplate why someone chooses to not only improve their lot in life, but also to do in legally (for the most part). Particularly when you think about how scarey it is working these days for an employer, where nothing is stable and so many companies are being bought out or go bankrupt.

I`m a punk. It runs through my veins but I pause and stop alot......I get drowned in What-Ifs and all the other Demotivators. I am working on it because I loathe working for others. I am so bored and dissatisfied. I can do it on my own. I know I can ( I think I can). See, there is the fear again!!!!
