Actually, most news outlets are always looking for content. If you have a well-written article that applies to time or topic, you can submit it to a magazine or paper. You`ll just want to check with them for the "submission guidelines." That`s usually a document that tells you exactly what you have to do in order to submit an article or story. Easiest way is to just call `em up, say you`d like their submission guidelines, and you`ll be transferred to whomever can make that happen.

I don`t know if there is a way around doors that are closed, other than improving the materials and read rate - that will hopefully lead to more call backs.

Personally, I`d be more focused on the SEO for other keywords.  If it`s already delivering a majority of sales, unless you`re number 1 for every relevant keyword, there`s a lot more you could do there, that would have a far greater effect on scaling your business then banging on doors.

I think a great, and easy way to gain some qualified sales leads is to give a presentation at your local chamber of commerce (or any place local small businesses meet) titled "The top 5 ways to keep your computer safe from virus`".  This will give you a lot of qualified sales leads, establish you as a leader in your field, and build your reputation as someone who is a great resource.  Not everyone in the room is going to buy from you right then, but when they are for your services, they will go to the person who provided them value, not the person who annoyed their receptionist.

Best of luck,

Chris, I really maxed out Google for alot at this stage...its been really excellent for me. Calls just roll in with it :) I am seriously afraid that I will lose my top spot and my business could take a bad hit overnight. I really need to diversify my marketing effort - its way too reliant on Google. Talk about putting eggs in one basket...

Greg, thanks for you idea. It can be quite difficult to get an opportunity to give talks as most organisations such as Chambers, BNI etc have set agendas for every meeting. That is my experience anyway.

I cannot believe that with all  this talk out there , from very seasoned and sucessful business people  ( not just authors and marketing gurus that "cold calling" is one of the most effective means of selling) I still believe them - but is a cold call just dropping literature into an office?

Agreed - that most have agendas, so yes, it does require some patients and even a little bit of influence to set up the meeting.  I started attending these meetings and getting to know the people of the most influence and then pitched them my presentation - and most importantly, how the group can benefit from what they learn from me.  Some times I had to wait four to six months before I was able to give the presentation, but it was worth it.

I`m one of those who is completely against cold calling.  I just look at it from a consumers point of view.  I am on "the list" to prevent telemarketers from calling my house and business.  When someone stops by my office to drop something off, I usually don`t have the time to talk to them anyway - and I forget to even look at their stuff most of the time.

That`s the way I feel about cold calling, and I imagine most of my prospective customers would feel the exact same way - so I choose not to.
