Is there something about Rexxindustrialparts.com that is causing customers to abandon their shopping carts?

Well, thats good. However, that should still at least give you a mild idea of why and where they`re abandoning their carts.
If you know they`re abandoning their cart, then you should be able to tell what page specifically they`re exiting most on. That will be the page(s) you need to improve.
And if your customers are that targeted then you should be getting pretty high conversion rates. So, i would definitely suspect it being a content problem.

It seems as though you have spent some time looking over my site, thank you. I checked out the McMaster-Carr site. It is nicely designed but I do not believe it looks more professional than mine and it is not apples to apples as it is not an e-commerce site. Many of your comments about how professional the site looks are contrary to the feedback I receive from my actual customers. I do accept part of what you say about the transition to the checkout page. It does look different but with the amount of business I do I am not sure that many people see it as a scam. It would be nice if I could match the colors of the rest of my pages but I am limited by the shopping cart I am using. I do however have the company logo on the checkout page in an effort to reassure customers that it is the same site. The live chat button does not really follow you all over the page. It simply goes up and down on the far left side when you scroll up or down. It does not cover any text and if it is annoying you can X it out and it will not bother you anymore. It is also provided by the best chat agent company and the same button can be found on a great deal of sites for major corporations, retail and otherwise.
You mentioned the lack of subcategories and that will be my next project. I get very few people that come in to my home page or that browse by category. Most visitors come in directly to the product page of the item they are interested in or they use the search box to quickly find what they want but it does need to be improved.
Again thank you for your critique. I will go over it several times to find the gems of advice and put them to use.

Common elements carry over. Both have the intention of getting people to buy. While i also wouldn`t copy the site, because more often than not is it a custom ad-hoc solution that works the best, you can examine other "similar" companies for ideas to at least try. That is where the AB testing i mentioned earlier comes in. You identify where you need work, then AB or multivariant test the solutions, and see if the new additon works well or not.

Not to be rude... but are you not here to increase your sales by recovering the large amount of people who are exiting your site? If so, the feedback of those few who are buying don`t mean much. You cater to the majority of your market in the ecommerce world. Obviously what makes the minority happy are scaring away the majority of your customers...

Take another look. I have always accepted Paypal on my website. I feel the same as you that it helps increase customers trust.

You could have a point there. I probably reacted with a bit of pride and took a bit of offense feeling my efforts were being deemed as worthless. I was wrong.

I did not think you were trying to be mean. I really appreciate the time and effort you have invested in reviewing my site and writing a review. I was frustrated as this is not my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or even 5th re-design. I have had quite a bit of success with this site and it continues to provide a significant percent of my total income. The rest comes from my sales on eBay and on my other e-commerce site http://www.rexxsales.com . Rexxsales.com is not a good site but I have been severely limited on design flexibility so  I have made the most of it. It does make me money but it will never be my main site again. http://www.Rexxindustrialparts.com however is a much better site and it has significantly increased my sales so i will continue to put time and money into making it better. I realize that the bulk of my customers are lost while on the checkout page. I am trying to find out how to improve it with my limited knowledge of html and java script as well as monetary limitations at this time to invest in professional help. If you know how I can make my checkout page design match the rest of my site using Yahoo which is my checkout provider that would be very useful information that I would love to have.
