I have went to the BBB website fill out their form and someone called me and said that my application would be excepted after I paid the 300 dollar price tag for a year

Is it worth it?, and why is it so easy to get in?, I imagined it would be tougher, do people still look to the BBB for legit businesses

It is not worth it. I was thinking about it as well. Here is what I found out. A friend of mine, has been in business for 14 years and he has a B-(minus) rating with them, so we decided to call them, and they told us that the reason why he was a B - , was because he wasn`t a member but if he paid the $250.00 just like you that he would  be have an A, rating ... I don`t know about that, but if you are dropping my rating just because I don`t want to become a member that`s called tarnishing the name of a Company? You don`t need it...

Business owners that sign up with the B.B.B. agree to abide by the BBB`s arbitration policies for resolving customer complaint disputes.  People can also go on line to research your company through the BBB.

Whether you are a member or not though, people can still file positive or negative comments with the BBB about your business.  The BBB then opens a file on your business.  This file can be accessed on line.

The only real advantage to being a member of the BBB is credibility.  It`s similar to having an ISO rating.  This rating means your company has met certain standards that are recognized nationally.  Does either one improve your business.  Not necessarily.  If you already met the standards, your business won`t change.

The BBB used to have a certain degree of credibility but not anymore. They still have a small bit of influence with older folks but with newer generations, I don`t think it will be the difference between getting a sale or not

Baby boomers still make a lot of the buying decisions.  And, they will for years to come.  I think the real value though is the BBB company reports, not membership.  Even if your not a member, can still open a file on a company.

After being in business for less than a year we got our first call from the BBB.  They told us that we were among a few businesses that had a great reputation and that we were eligible to be listed as trusted companies backed by the BBB.  Everything sounded great until the representative asked me which credit card I wanted to put the $300+ membership fee on.

Up until asking for money they led me to believe that we were one of the few select businesses chosen for acceptance and that they just wanted to know how to handle our listing.  It doesn`t seem right to me to have to pay to get a seal of approval from an organization that businesses rely on to make purchasing decisions.
