Hi,
I have a small business that I really haven`t given my all to but I don`t want to let it go.  I was thinking about going to nursing school because there is a security in working a 9to5 and I would have my small business on the side.  I`m really torn because though I want to pursue my business, I want a sense of security.  Can anyone help?

Nursing school these days is a tremendous drain on your time and effort, and likely would result in your having to close down the business until you graduate. That is, unless your business pretty much runs itself.

from experience you can do both with compromises to both.
I am wondering which is more important to you?
could you put off school (not something I`d recommend to my kids)
to try the business for a year or two? maybe get it to a point where a hired manager could take care of the day to day stuff then return to school.
tough choice
my two cents

Thanks for the response Stan,

My business is more important but I was going by the old adage "Always have a b-plan."  I`m not necessarily sure that I want to become a nurse but I was trying to fall back on something solid just in case.

Hi, Vooski,

Owning a business is like jumping off a cliff.  You have to be willing to take the risk, or walk through the open door, to see what the possible outcome may be.  I`m sure that most people on this site can attest.  However, it gets easier with every step you take, having a good support system around you and having the belief in yourself that you can make it happen; that you can be successful.  You already know the worst case scenerio - you go to nursing school, a field that is very much in need of capable people.  So, knowing that should make it even easier to take the risk to determine if it`s really what you want.

Wish you all the best in your decision making process.

Best,
Jennifer

If you really aren`t sure if you want to be a nurse and are just doing it to have a plan b, don`t do it. It`s not worth it. Not telling you not to go to school, just don`t go for something you don`t really want to do.....

Remember too, that when there`s a compromise it means neither side gets what they want.

Nursing is a great field.  I was a dental hygienist.  The hygiene job allowed me to pay the bills while I pursue what I really wanted...working for myself.  I wouldn`t be where I am without hygiene.  The flexibility, pay, and security are worth it.  But don`t give up on your dreams!

I wonder, though, if there isn`t a pretty significant difference in the amount of time invested to get a dental hygienist license versus a nursing certificate?
