A lot of people are being reduced to part-time hours right now. I think that this is the ideal transition from employment to entrepreneurship. We all know that moving from being an employee to being a entrepreneur can be difficult. I have blogged about it here:

What do you think?

I think a lot of people would agree with you.  With our photography business, we're seeing a lot of amateurs coming out of the woodwork.  There's also a down-side to this though.  Every Joe that has a camera is now trying to shoot weddings, and that's spreading a lot of professionals pretty thin.  We're also hearing horror stories from brides who tried to save a buck with an inexperienced photographer.

I think if people weren't all crowding to the same career fields, it might be more beneficial for the economy overall.

Good Post and this is pretty much exactly what caused me to start a business of my own.

I work for a commercial airline and I'm part time, recently there have been a lot of changes in the industry and honestly we have no idea if we're going to have jobs from day to day. I've been working for the same company for 16+ yrs and I'm really burned out on the whole aviation industry.

I'm starting a small scale farming business growing and marketing hydroponically grown vegetables/herbs and flowers to local consumers, restaurants, schools..etc.

my issue isnt so much in growing and marketing as it is in trying to get established and deal with food regulations and taxes.

Good point, I've blogged about this also. A business would be a great opportunity for many people but the sad fact remains that many people are entrepreneurs and a lot of them aren't. Many people fail at business because of this and other reasons. That's why just hopping into a business is not a good idea until a person takes a good honest look at themselves, what kind of business that they want to start, if they can handle it all, what kind of support they need etc...

A person getting into self-employment should always have a well developed, well written business strategy & business plan. There’s a lot that a person needs to look at and consider. It all depends on what you’re trying to do and what you’re great at doing.
