My website is http://www.greenandchic.com and the blog is http://www.greenandchic.com/blog (I am currently working on my Wordpress theme to get it to look like my site). I don’t have my site professionally optimized at this time, but I was wondering if my Wordpress blog would help with that.  I am able to drive a fair amount of traffic (not very targeted though) to my blog and was wondering if thats enough for my site.  Would I do well to have my site professionally optimized or is WP good enough?

Optimize both your blog and website. One (blog) does not necessarily replace the other (web site).

A blog can reach into other search results (specific to blogs, articles, etc) and thus can affect traffic and reach into your target market.

Your blog has a lot of outbound links, are these reciprocal links? Just like a website, you want to try to get more links in that out.

Also, when writing in your blog be aware of the title of each post. Use targeted keywords.
Certainly,  link back to your website or specific products within your posts.

Unless I missed it, I did not see a link to your website from your blog`s home page.
That is a must.

Kathy - Great ideas!  Ill move the blog link on the home page on the site and ill add links and banners to the blog.

Roland - I`m not sure if my outbound links are reciprocal links.  I dont think think they are because my blog is so new.  I`m not sure how to get more inbound links.

There is a link to my website at the top right (banner) but I`m not sure how to make it more visible.  There is also a link in the "about" page.

Seo is fundamental to the traffic success of your site and your blog, quality links and keyword phrases are of paramount importance to your sites and the content of your site head text should also include if possible some of the word terms that people should look for when searching.
Hope this helps.

is it ever good enough?

learn the basics of SEO and implement it to both your site and blog. this is paramount.  it is not difficult either.  SUN has plenty of information for you and you shouldnt need to go anywhere else for the wisdom.

now once you have done SEO learn internet marketing and ongoingly implement different ways that work for you best. this is an ongoing long term process and you need to stick to it.  use your blog and website together in parallel. the blog should help drive more traffic to your main site.  keep going at it as momentum is everything on the internet...or entrepreneurship in general

WordPress is good for SEO in general. For example one seo friendly feature of WordPress is permalinks. Permalinks make it easy for you to have URLs that are more search engine friendly, but you still need to turn permalinks on and there are still decisions about how you want to set up the structure of the URL.

It looks like you`ve already turned the permalinks on too.

If you do little other than to use WordPress you probably are in better shape than if you had someone with no SEO knowledge build you a site. But know that WordPress isn`t a substitute for a marketing strategy or an SEO strategy. Neither are one time things to set up and leave alone. It`s all a process. WordPress will give you a good start on some aspects of SEO, but there`s definitely more to optimizing a site.

Only you can decide if it`s worth hiring someone or whether you want to take the time to optimize your site and blog. You could even ignore SEO completely and still do well.

there are plug ins you can use for seo - that make it easier to drop in the seo for each page, also was going to tell you that you can match your blog to look like your site, you got that figured out already, good luck with your site

I`ve used Drupal...I prefer Joomla.
I swear by CMS, and I am a developer also...this is just my preference.

Wordpress Rocks!

Let me know if you have any questions about any of these CMS solutions.
