So far as submitting to here there and everywhere, maybe overdoing the same article will lead to a diminishing return on time invested but I don´t beleive for a second it can actually "hurt" your site.

There is a very logical reason why getting links from bad neighbourhoods and having spammy inbound links our Google bombing your own site can´t do your site any harm...

Because if it did, then I could simply employ a company to do this to my competitiors all day and all night long and watch them fall out the rankings.

That isn´t going to happen and it would comepletely ruin the whole concept of ranking if it were allowed to.

Off site SEO cannot do any damage. ONSITE SEO certainly can.. if it is you sending links out to bad neighborhoods, keyword spamming and using other blackhat then you can be penalised for it.

The real problem with SEO is all the bullshit. People spout it all over the internet - "secret linkjuice" "secret ways to rank nr 1" "secret this that and the other" and 95% of it is complete rubbish designed to tempt you to part with your cash for a secret product that nobody else is using.

If anyone came across a secret way of consistently ranking number 1 very quickly for any keywords they wouldn´t need to sell this as a service - they could just built a couple of websites and retire!

The real problems with SEO is misinformation

WOW... I'm surprised that Jacus' post hasn't been deleted... It's blatant SPAM!!!

Moving on to the topic...  SEO works when it's executed properly, no doubt about it.  I have customers that have hundreds and hundreds of keywords on page one of Google.  A local caterer has 1500 page one listings! No Black Hat, just setting the site up correctly the first time and doing weekly SEO maintenance (about 30-60 minutes a week).

I would suggest educating yourself as much as you can, but here are the basics:

1.  Do keyword Research to determine what people are searching for and build your website around those terms. Don't go to broad, targeted long tail keywords work better.  Look at the search results to see what your competition is.

2.  Keyword should be in your URL when possible, otherwise as page title

3.  Title and META tags should all be set up and include your keywords.  Do not use the same Title and META data across the site, make each page's unique.

4.  H Tags should contain your keywords.

5.  Content should contain your keywords and synonyms of your keywords.  Create and use anchor text based on your keywords to link to other pages in your site.  Name images the same as your keyword, ie: DogTrainingimg.jpg, DogTrainingimg2.jpg

6.  Create a Google Account - Sign up for Webmaster tools and Analytic

7.  Create an xml sitemap and submit it to Google

8.  Register your site at Directories

9.  Go to Ping-o-matic and ping your site at as many of the sites as you can - this takes a couple of hours the first time because you have to set up all your accounts

10.  Do as much Social Bookmarking as you can. Create MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, Orkut, Bebo, etc accounts.  Every time you create a social bookmark go back to Ping-o-matic and ping the bookmark.

11.  Every week create and submit 1 article + one video based around one page/keyword phrase of your site that links back to the corresponding page.  Go to Ping-o-matic and ping each.

12.  Every week try to create 5 - 10 High quality Back links

I find that there is usually ranking withing the first two weeks, and as the weeks go by it just gets better.  One of my favorite tools is Market Samuari.

I have appreciated this thread because I have not had good experience with good SEO companies. One company I would not recommend is wpromote.com. They have great prices, for a PPC plan, but they took my money, and my site got like 10 visits per month. When confronted, they would not provide a report to me so I could reconcile it to my anaylitics, so I cancelled.

I would say that befoundmarketing.com would be pretty good.  They gave me three weeks for free, and if I didn't get a customer from his results, there would be no charge. In the three weeks I didn't get a customer, so we parted ways.  But I would recommend them just because, that was pretty cool.  Had I gotten a customer, I would have stuck with them, and if I get one in the future from the work they provided, I might just give them a call.

There are no doubt honest SEO companies out there, but there are also a lot of crooks.  I prefer to do my SEO myself...

Cool posting here. please keep in continue. The best way to find the Best SEO Company for you business is to
actually phone the SEO companies up. Explain your business to them. If
they can't understand your business, then they probably can't help
you. The Top SEO Companies understand SEO, but they also understand
the needs of their clients. The best seo company can look into your
business and figure out what your key customers are typing into
Google. There's no point in hiring a SEO company that doesn't
understand what your business is about. Without that knowledge, how
will they know what keywords do to SEO for?

Thanks & Regards~

Like anything, there are no good SEO companies and good ones.

I like the searchguru method.

If an SEO company isn't even using the basic SEO techniques on their own homepage and subsequent pages, they probably aren't the place to be.

Definitely any company promising top 10 Rankings is not real.  Oh yeah, they'll get you top 10 for words no one would ever search for.  So it that sounds good to you, go for it.

Always remember that search engines alone only account for 20% of all web traffic.  So, don't put every dime into search engines and SEO.  There are many more ways to get tons more traffic.
