So many marketers get all excited about Google`s PageRank. Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but in my opinion, Google`s PageRank means absolutely nothing - it`s worthless!

Do you agree or disagree? Explain your position.

True, many people are still concerned about PR, eventhough the # itself is not a real time measure of a website popularity. PR may be an ok indicator, but people should not worry about the number... but instead focus on practices that (in the past) have helped increase PR.

In other words... practice sound web design, linking, and site promotion activities, and site populatiry will follow.

Is PR worthless? Maybe not (because it can provide a hint of a site`s popularity), but it is certainly not a reliable measure.

Also, the www has changed dramatically since PR was introduced. Search engines has changed, algorithms have changed, and the relative impact of linking has changed.

I have been mainly using it lately as a measurement of growth, along with many other factors such as links to the site, participation, traffic from various sources, etc.

Worthless!

PR was a big deal 5 years ago, but today, it is just one measurement among hundreds. I just wrote about this on the osC forums, after a thread containing my innocent question about widgets was highjacked by a PR argument.

Toolbar PR is virtually worthless.  I use it as a quick indicator, but that`s it.  I don`t place very much value on it.

Actual PR, however, is still a large part of the algorithm.

It should serve as a guide, but do not lose sleep over it.

PageRank is after all, a metric. Do get on and do what is right and not game it.

The Google Page Rank Utility is just a toy and meant for entertainment purposes only.  This is from Google themselves.

It all depends on how others, not your business, use it.

When I am shopping I use the page rank to determine the popularity of the site. I will normally shop with sites with a higher rank than those with no rank at all. It provides me with a bit of security that the online shop has a lot of patrons.
