Where statistics are simply not available, for whatever reason, for example: totally new uncharted territory, new country where they just can`t provide any fresh data, etc. what would investors want to see? Guestimates?

I`m guessing...trending data. The company could possibly be a pilot program, offering a year`s worth of initial sales or existence in a very small test market.

Aleem,

I`m not clear on what statistics you want to supply- but it would a rare situation for something to be so new, unique, isolated or unconnected that is can`t be "modelled" after something.

And in that rare situation what would you advise?
To model it after something?

I wouldn`t exactly model it after something - entirely. Are you trying to define the size of your market? If so, I`d first define the problem you are going to solve then describe who has the problem If you can`t find any "hard" data that tells you how many have this problem, you`ll have to interpret from some known data point.

If I were to replace the word "interpret" from your previous paragraph with "estimate" would that be acceptable?

And also, if that data point is 10 years old, from when the last national census was done on the island. Would you still use it?

If you need to use population figures in your scenario and the "latest" available date is 10 years old - then I guess you`ll have to use it as a starting point.

See if you can find some "estimates" of the percentage of change since the census.
