I have been looking around and haven`t found much information about this, so I am gonna` ask here. Is there any "groups" that pool their money to buy businesses?

I have invested in the stock market in the past, but I kinda` am tired of being exposed to the crazies of the world. You know, the people who wake up one day and say, "I had a dream last night that the sun was gonna` stop shinning. I better sell *all* my stocks `cause I might need the money to buy light bulbs."

I am looking to invest in a pool of money that takes true ownership of businesses, not common stock ownership. Ownership that is limited in the number of investors and all stock is attached to the assets of the business. So, if the business goes under investors still recoup "some" money from selling of assets.

Are you talking about Angel Investors? (That bit about the "3 F`s" made me laugh.) I`ve had some friends who got money from angel investors ... and the tradeoff was that the investors had ownership of some part of the company.

Well, I was looking for "groups" that pool their money and buy businesses. Not necessarily businesses in the "angel" stage. They could be mature businesses. By pooling their money, the group could take majority ownership.

Kinda` like mutual funds, but not buying common stock.

I have personally seen several situations where a number of folks have "pooled" their money into a an entity for the purpose of purchasing a specific business.

There are several "groups" that provide the capital for leveraged buyouts and merger type transactions.

However, I`m not aware of any formal entity that buys and operates companies.

Do you have a specific situation in mind?
