You bring up a good point in how to find an internet marketing company but what about trying to do internet marketing in-house? What sorts of criteria should one use to decide if they want to hire an internet marketing firm to do its internet marketing or perhaps hire a team to help with its internet marketing? Here, we do a bit of our internet marketing in-house and have really taken advantage of having a team devoted to our internet marketing efforts :)

I'd agree with Ankur's basic principle.  However as a startup SEO company, I'm seeing the issue from the other side of the coin.  Turns out not many people search for SEO companies in their local area.  There are plenty of searches for the general terms, but with so many SEO companies, that's a tough phrase to dominate as a new company.

I'm sure there are people who will only trust the top companies, but I think there's also room for talking to newer SEO companies that have helped others out on their SEO, but haven't done much yet with their own.  Just my 2 cents.
