Hi :)

I`m trying to build a list of all the intangible goods that one could sell online.

So far, I`ve come up with those :

1. downloadable software
2. online applications (pay-per-use or membership)
3. e-books
4. web space
5. photo stock
6. logos
7. website layouts
8. phone rings
9. audio samples / sound banks
10. 3D objects for virtual worlds
11. drafts (housing)
12. data mining

Any other ideas?

Now, in my opinion, the best product remains #2, online application.
Why? Simply because it can`t be easily duplicated (except from reverse engineering) since it`s located on a remote server.

The trick is to find an applicaton people might want to pay for.

Ok, your turn now :)

This might be data mining, but what about job listings. Then what about advertising space (like on a popular social site)

I saw someone sell their soul on eBay, I believe. Does that count?

Hmmm ... I believe that there are too many job listing sites already. I doubt I could make a significant amount of money with such a business line.

As for advertising space, I think it`s doable as long as you find the right incentives to make people pay for ad placement. Traffic on its own isn`t enough anymore.

E learning is an online class given by a subject matter expert (sometimes free as marketing, other times sold as a product).

Also, here is a spin on a white paper/market intellegence report in the world of outdoor recreation:  It is route information for rock climbers.  This is the marketing page, and the product (in this case a free sample) is here.

BTW, if there are any climbing SUNners, this route is absolutely spectacular.

I think the question is what constitutes intangible products. It`s a bit odd to try and form an artificial class of those intangibles that could be sold online. If they can be sold online, they also can be sold anywhere. As such, look at all of human history and economics.

For many years I`ve used the little maxim that "The answer to any question is usually in a properly formed question." To that end, how about rephrasing the question?

I would go for the online applications and softwares.

that would be the best for selling online

but the newest one is selling domain.

That`s more likely to be a great investment soon.

Hmmm ... I don`t see how domain names could become a great investment.
They are very cheap and there are still gazillons of good free domain names that are patiently waiting to be reserved.

I think it`s possible to make an e-learning website totally automated. Would have to be cheaper than the one you`re talking about, though.

As for the pdf maps, as a mtb rider, I always prefer to buy real maps made of paper. It`s such a hassle to print out that stuff.

I`m in the online applications biz, and I think it is going to prove to be fairly successful. I was lucky to have a programmer in the family, so that overhead also went away... but I think it has good potential.

Neat thread.
