I read Pokerman`s excellent "Get Publicity" post with great interest.  In particular, I notice that he listed a number of websites where you can post a press release for free.

For over a year, I have been using a piece of software called Press Equalizer to automate the process of submitting press releases to many of the websites that are listed in Pokerman`s post, as well as some others that are not listed.

I attribute much of the great Google placement of The Billable Hour Co. (as of today, we`re #4 of 4.3 million for our most common search terms, "lawyer gift," and we`re way up there for other relevant terms as well) to the fact that Press Equalizer makes it very easy to submit press releases to many press release sites, which then all link back to your site.

Although it`s a $97 investment, it saves you loads of time, and the ROI is incredible. I highly recommend it!

lisa, this software doesn`t truly "automate" the process. what it does is that it pre populates your info to the pr site you submit to. you still have to submit manually to each PR site.  true automation is finding a service that mass distributes your release to credible sources.  this service is usually in the $1,000 ballpark.  that said, good credible companies/websites are not very easy to find.

anyone have better alternatives? what is the best truly automated press release distribution service you have used?  which one has yielded the best results for your business in terms of traffic and PR bump?

Hi Lisa and WebJunky,

Your PR distribution has to do with your overall goals.

If you are just looking to boost website visits, your best bet is to add SEO keywords to your press release and send it out through a credible, cost-effective service like PRWeb, PR Newswire, Businesswire, etc. And if it`s worth your time and effort, post it to free press-release sites manually (list at http://www.rembrandtwrites.com/blog/?p=8).

However, you will probably get much better exposure, credibility and results by targeting your top media venues, creating a specific pitch and picking up the phone. (See http://www.startupnation.com/steps/77/steps-successful-public-relations.htm.)

You don`t need to spend a lot of money to get the word out about your business. But before signing up with any service, I highly suggest reviewing overall goals and how/if that service can help you reach those goals within your budget.

Hope this helps!
Melanie
