Hi Adam, it`s terrific to see you and people your age taking your destiny into your own hands.

Without any specifics in your question, the philosophic answer would be that of course you should pursue your passion and interests. :-)

A more specific follow-up question would be, "Why do you think you can compete with the others in your field? Do you offer a particular value other companies or individuals do not?"

That would generate specific situations. Are you faster, better, or less expansive? Do you have a game idea nobody`s thought of yet? If so, what`s your guess as to risk that someone has thought of it, but it`s secret and we just haven`t yet heard about it?

Additionally, do you have contacts in the business---a way to at least get started without having to invest bazillions?

I`d suppose, not being an expert in copyrighting, that you would have two issues to deal with. The first would be at what cost would you buy the games. The second, would you own the right to sell those games. That`s assuming you`re going to be a retailer selling games.

Another strong issue, perhaps larger, would be to differentiate yourself from the entire planet of other game sellers. Back only 50 years ago, your competition would mostly be local, regional at best. With certain businesses, national competition might come into play. But now, with the Internet, competition is truly global.

That means it isn`t enough to be really good at what you do. You now have to be spectacular, because you`re competing against 6-billion people. Think of the Chinese gymnasts, or Cirque de Soleil. The performers are so far beyond what traditional circus performers did as to be unbelievable.

Another option would be to get into the marketing and distribution business in particular. There`s an SuN member who programs games out of Romania, attempting to get wider recognition. In my experience, production people often aren`t so skilled at marketing and sales. If that`s your area of passion and expertise, you`ll likely find programmers who could really use your help, and produce a whole new game. (Think of Steve Jobs - sales, and Steve Wozniak - production.)
