While most of the Indy business community was enjoying the unseasonably warm weather, mowing their yard, or shopping at the mall today, a group of approximately 75 entrepreneurs were working on launching 13 different companies this weekend. With skill sets ranging from technology and finance to marketing and project management, these entrepreneurs have been brainstorming, developing, designing and refining their business concepts.

Work will continue tomorrow at the Purdue Research Park of Indianapolis, 5225 Exploration Drive, 46241, culminating in team pitches before a panel of experts Sunday, April 10th from 5 – 7 Pm. The teams will be competing for prizes, to help launch their ideas.

The pitch session is open to the public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at: http://indianapolis.startupweekend.org/register/

Check out : http://indianapolis.startupweekend.org/2011/04/09/swindy-1000-saturday/ for video introductions to many of the companies and http://www.facebook.com/startupweekendindy for more information about the entire weekend experience.

The businesses which will be presenting Sunday night include:

  • The Original Grab Bag

  • Three Thumbs Up

  • Civic Resound

  • Trial Bucket

  • Textern

  • Amy Iris

  • PeerKat

  • PhotoGifter

  • Pocket U

  • Grabachat

  • Group Lunch

  • Hot or Not

  • Need Someone To

The companies and projects which are coming out of the weekends are fantastic,” said Steven Shattuck, the official videographer of the event. “But the main goal of Startup Weekend is to build community and give participants entrepreneurial experience they can apply in these and future ventures.”

Each StartUp Weekend has its own distinctive feel because of group size, participants skill sets, and local influences,” said Startup Junkie and event organizer, Lorraine Ball. “But in each case, there is a common thread of innovation and community.”

After the companies share their first investor pitches on Sunday night, most will to continue working to full launch in the coming weeks.
