What a great feeling it is to learn something new. Taking a cooking class, learning a new language, completing an online course- all great things. But what happens after? A few years back, I purchased the Rosetta French Language Course with the hopes of learning French in time for a vacation.  My excitement carried me through the lessons. Unfortunately, I didn’t implement any of the new found knowledge and a few months later, I wasn’t able to recall half the things I learned. Simply put, without implementation the knowledge you learn may not have a place to go and your brain puts it on the back burner and then slowly disappears.

I recently concluded a 12-week online course  packed with great information. Something new was covered each week . Due to the rich content, the only way to keep up and make sure I was really learning and understanding the content was to implement what Christine Gallagher taught every week as soon as the content was shared. At the end of the 12 weeks, I had implemented the steps and had opportunity to ask questions as we went along. My success in Christine’s course was due greatly to the implementation technique I followed. If you apply what you learn months after you learn it, the opportunity is missed to ask questions and solutions to the hiccups you will find along the way. The best time to place into practice what you learn is the moment you learn it.

Implementation is the execution of a plan, idea, model, design, specification, standard, algorithm, or policy.

If you dream of an idea, without implementation, it remains a dream. If you desire to learn a new language without implementation, you will soon forget. If your desire is to become productive in your business, you cannot transform your business without implementing the changes for productivity. Follow these steps to begin the process of implementation:

1. Before you begin a venture, make sure you can see it through. If you begin taking a course but are not really convinced or planning on finishing, don’t start- you’re setting yourself up for failure.

2. Implement as you go and ask questions: In my case, this course was 12 weeks and I implemented every week. As I implemented the new knowledge, I had questions that were easily answered before moving along to something else. This also prevents feeling overwhelm as things are processed in manageable increments.

3. Feel proud of your accomplishment! Celebrate that you did it! You implemented the changes and will see awesome results.

Great post. A lot of people have great ideas but those who implement their great ideas and implement them well are the ones who make it.

Implementation is the action that must follow any preliminary thinking in order for something to actually happen. Even big approaches and plans fail to bring needed performance gains, if they don’t get implemented well. It happens often.

Implementing strategy is the translation of chosen strategy into organizational action so as to achieve strategic goals and objectives.  It is imperative to focus on the factors that are most significant and employing best policies and programs for constant improvement.
