I have developed a product that is a new twist on an old favorite;  the s`more.  I would like to present this to a food manufacturer. Most companies are not interested in new recipes, but this is actually a new food product with multiple uses.  Does anyone have any advice? Thanks- ctw

You need to find a co-packer to manufacture for you.  You`re not necessary "selling" them your recipe, but rather, hiring / contracting them to produce for you.  That way, you`re a customer to them, and more likely to get their attention.

Can you think of a product that is very similar, that will just require some different ingredients?  It`s going to be hard to find a manufacturer to add equipment to manufacture a new concept for you, so you need to think creatively about how the production process could be done.  For example, if this were a pocket sandwich with s`more filling, you could approach pizza pocket mfr`s.

You will also need a packaging designer and printer to make your boxes/labels and ship them to your co-packer.

If you describe the product for us here, maybe we can help think of some production ideas.

Erin,

Thank you for the good information, I hadn`t thought about co-packing, I really hadn`t planned on producing this product myself, I was hoping to license it.  You`ve given me something to think about.... thanks- ctw

I can try and help out.  I have a food processing facility in California.  We have helped out a couple of local people launch their product into the market.  If it is something that is not within our capabilities, we do our best to point people toward the right direction to fulfill their dreams.  Unfortunately, most of my network are Southern California based only.  If you are not, I can still answer any question you might have regarding taking a bench top recipe into manufacturing and sales.  Please feel free to pick my brain via email at christian.ao@sbcglobal.net and hopefully I can help you out (please excuse the fact that I might not respond as promptly as some might like, but it is the busy season).  Christian
