In the next couple of weeks a new book will be released at amazon that mentions my website in it.  For those wondering how this happened, well in this case I happened to know one of the people helping the author on the book so it wasn`t a stroke of brilliance on my part.

I have never been mentioned in a book before and wondering how I might capitalize on it and possibly build momentum from it.

Any ideas?

By the way the book is found here if that aids your response.

If you want to capitalize from the books exposure, then encourage people to get the book or even give out some books.  If you are in a book and nobody reads it, it doesn`t benefit you.  You have to get people to read it to benefit from your exposure.

Don`t depend on this book to be a huge marketing tool if the book only sells 50 books.

Good point...not only does it need to sell a lot of books but the reader can`t get tired before getting to the pages that contain my site name.

I like the idea of giving away some copies.  Are you thinking more of just hand outs to people thinking about becoming entrepreneurs or something like a video contest with one of the prizes being a copy of the book?

Put a sort of testimonial on your site, with the context paragraph from the book, and something like, "As seen in `This Book,` by Some Author---a popular book about A Subject. Then have a link to the Amazon page with the book. Whether it sells a lot or not, you felt it was a popular book, so that`s okay...it`s just poetic license. :-) But quote the paragraph exactly, and credit the quote.

This is a great time to play up your involvement. I have written two books and always encourage participants to milk it. For my first one I sent them a release template they could send to their papers. The more press you get, the more the book gets, so it`s a plus for the author if you pump it up, too.

I would use it as a news item in your email newsletter as well, if you have one:)

Congrats:)

Hi Brandon:

I recently had a book published about inkjet printing and photography, and there were about 25 photographers and other artists who contributed in some way, plus I mentioned at least 100 companies who make products that I use and that the contributing photographers use.

One of the best things to do is set up a press page your site and show the book`s cover, link to the book`s companion site if there is one, and possibly show the page where your company is mentioned. Here is an example of how the owner of a company who makes custom mats and frames mentioned my book. He didn`t mention that he was mentioned in the book, but I sent him the PDF in case he wanted to.

You can also give away one of the books to your newsletter subscribers (if you have a newsletter). I wrote an article, which you can find here, about my experiences in marketing a book, and I am learning more each day.

Also, Kristen, I like the idea of a "release template." Would you mind elaborating? I sent the main press release to any interested contributors to help them pitch stories.

Thanks!
Andrew

As one of the contributors to Kristen`s first book (Hi Kristen!) I needed no encouragement to milk the fact with one of my "Toot! Toot!" press releases.  I send out press releases whenever I am mentioned in books, magazines, newspapers, or on websites.

Here`s a link to the release that I sent out via snail mail, email and through online press release resources about Kristen`s book.
