Vincent - Yes, I design the look in Illustrator, then I slice it up in ImageReady and bring it into Dreamweaver. Then I worked on getting the CSS just right which took a whole day because I never did CSS before. Once I got the styles done it was pretty easy to move stuff from my old site to the new one - except for the actual shopping pages which took a lot of reconfiguring.
I`m fortunate to have a background in graphic design - but I am also self-taught in that as well. I am only a HS grad, but I`m good at learning on my own I guess. I just get books - like the Dummies books, and try to absorb it. For CSS I just searched the web for tutorials.
Thanks for the compliments!
