For those who aren`t aware of the story, my wife and I have been trying for the last 14 months to adopt 4 kids, two boys, two girls, ages 3 to 7. Pics are on my profile.

We`re driving to Florida this weekend to pick up the three older kids. The magistrate said to make the move during their school break which starts Monday. Fortunately the spring break in Ohio is a week later than Florida so we`ll have a couple of weeks together before the older two resume school. We`re driving because I didn`t want to leave them in foster care a single day longer than necessary. Besides what better way to start your new life together than a road trip?

We`re still fighting for the youngest. The hearings are over and all that remains is the decision of the magistrate. We feel optimistic but one never knows how things like this will go. If you`re the sort who prays, please do. Otherwise, best wishes, good vibes, thoughts, whatever are appreciated as well.

We can`t wait for the next chapter of our lives to begin. We are so glad we considered "life plan before business plan" and started a food manufacturing business instead of a retail bakery. Everytime the foster mom`s attorney tried to imply that the business would take Carol away from the kids she said we have employees to handle that. After the hearing is over I think of all kinds of things I wish I had said. One was "rather than hire people to care for our kids so we can attend to our business, we`re hiring people to run our business so we can care for our kids."   Hopefully the magistrate can see the truth through the allegations.

We`ll let you know how things go.

Wonderful!  I will pray that you and Carol arrive home with four beautiful children.  God bless you and your new family.

CONGRATULATIONS!

I really hope everything works out. Question are these children related? If so WHY wouldn`t the court let you have them?

Anyway, just wishing you the best. There are a lot of kids out there looking for a great family. You will be blessed for being that family.

Yes, they are siblings and my Niece is the mother. The only reason they are even considering separating them is that the youngest has been in the same foster home since she was 6 weeks old.

How wonderful you and Carol are there to provide a stable, loving environment for these kids who have been separated.  Here`s hoping the Magistrate will see that the little one could certainly benefit from being with siblings.  Please let us know the outcome.  Good luck to your new family and for a safe trip home for all of you!

Way t`go Steve!! :-D

It occurs to me, though, that unlike other parents, you won`t be able to call your kids "honey pie." Right? Unless you specify that it be gluten-free pie? LOL!!

Congrats on finally getting done with all the paperwork. :-)

Congrats to you and your new extended family, hope the road trip goes well. Expect it to take longer to get back then it does to drive to Florida (potty breaks and all). Again Congrats.

Knowing me, it will more likely be "sugar pie honey bunch." In my personal life, given a choice between saying something and singing a phrase from a song, I go with the song every time. I`m not saying the current audience isn`t appreciative, but after 28 years she pretty well knows what to expect. A new audience will be fun.

We have some long time friends near Atlanta so we`re stopping there on the way down and back. When he suggested we stop there on our way back Carol questioned whether he really wanted us to stay there with the kids. Then it occurred to me, he and his wife have known Carol longer than I have. Very few people will get to see her on "day one" as a Mommy. Jeff wouldn`t miss that for anything.
