Hello,

I`m a professional musician with platinum sales, etc... however my need to sell music and boost creativity (rather than 3 mins .99cents cookie-cutter consumer unsatisfying model) my brain come up with something I think is going to balance the industry and satisfy both listener and the music recording professional.

So, I have this idea, and I need to move it forward. and First and formost I need to patent the idea. Could someone please help me to find the right direction. perhaps finding a good (and not expensive/fancy) lawyer, that I can start approaching potential investors etc...

Trully appreciate your assistance folks!

what would you consider an expensive/fancy lawyer?

Don`t want to be in the situation of being a milking cow in this. Just a quick straight forward to start patenting process is what I need.

$400/hr attorneys is not going to be in my radar at the moment. Grass root startup here :-)

It`s easy ... refuse to be milked. (loved that and your music is cool too!~)
Not knowing the nature of your invention and patent needs, this is what I`d do ... use Google Patents to find a similar invention/patent to what you have in mind; contact the listed attorney and see what it cost the patent holder ... or ask the patent holder; and if they`d do it the same.

I`ve pulled up one search/result for you because I`ve met Riopelle and I`m sure he or one of his people will let you know what they think and all that jazz. ... Beamz on Google Patent Search

You can also find attorneys and agents with licenses to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office in your area on the USPTO site https://oedci.uspto.gov/OEDCI/ ... do a little research and find a handful that sound right for your needs and then interview them for the job at hand and find out what you should expect to pay as you follow your dreams!

Have fun.

The advice about using the USPTO roster is decent advice.  The advice about searching Google patents is also decent advice.  I’m not sure it would get you much further than the yellow pages, but it’s not bad advice.

The advice about contacting a lawyer that might end up suing you some day because his other prior client patented something that is similar to what you want to patent/make/use/sell is REALLY BAD advice in most instances.  Do you think there might be a CONFLICT between a lawyer representing several clients who all have patents to different variations of widget1 widget2 and widget3?  Yeah, that’s a problem.

Thanks, James. Yes, it does seem a bit of a conflict. My invention is about technology though that includes media/music. Perhaps a patent attorney who knows this field would be the best choice.
