Hello All -

For years I have wanted my own business.  I am an IT network engineer that just got his MBA!  Great...but....I do not want to go work for someone else.  I want to have my own business so I can employ others and help stimulate this sagging economy ;-)

Here's the thing.  I have some pretty unique skills and passions but not even sure how you could make money doing them.  I love to teach. It comes naturally.  I can't quite explain it but when I teach someone something and they learn a new concept or skill and then apply it...I get ecstatic!!  I love brainstorming.  I love talking about business and helping others.

So I wonder. How can an IT guy.....with an MBA....do something centered around my passions and make money.

I would love to teach totally different classes like "Business basics for IT professionals" or I would love to help small businesses succeed.

At any rate - if anyone has any good articles, thoughts, or successes you know of...let me know as I'm open to ideas right now. Thanks!!

Hi Shane,

Searching can be frustrating. Laurie and I searched for two years and came up short. Turns out something we were not interested in early on became our answer.

So keep an open mind to things that do not appear to fit your formula. What you are looking for could be the farthest thing from your mind. But when you take a closer look, under the surface, you might be surprised at yourself saying, "This is it?!"

Best regards. Scott & Laurie

The first problem I see is you are always running to the university to "find out" who you are and where to go with your life.

Maybe you should just get started doing something instead of pondering everything so much.

When I was searching for references for grad school I found your MBA-type Business Education plans, they are excellent! I watched a couple of videos and learned a lot of things that will aid me in the future, thanks for sharing them with us.
