I am looking for real, honest feedback both positive and negative on my website www.1800prepare.com.

I thinki the preparedness industry has done a poor job of reaching out to the community and to get people thinking about preparedness. I want my site to be both a selling platform as well as an information platform. We will be adding new features soon but wanted to get some early critique.

Thanks

Hello! Your homepage was a bit scary with the flash images, but I suppose it is important to see what you are preparing for. Maybe some pictures of survivors of these disasters, perhaps those saved by such preparedness kits and testimonials would be a beacon of light.

Your prices seem very reasonable, but I am still not inclined to buy, I am not sure why. Perhaps because where I live, thankfully, we do not experience tornadoes, wildfires and such, although we are big fat target for hurricanes here on Long Island. Maybe a map of the US to show what areas are affected by what and what to buy to prepare for it?

Although I am ever the optimist, I will show your site to my husband, the boy scout, so if you see an order come through for Long Island, you know your message to him was loud and clear. Do you find more men or women purchasing? Just curious.

You blog is really nice, and your "50 emergency uses for a cell phone" was great, maybe I can feature an excerpt in my next squidoo lens, of course, I`ll check with you first!

Best of luck to you in your endeavor! Stay safe everybody!

You really capture the audience with those flashing pictures in the front page.
After you capture them, though, where do you want them to go?
You should have an obvious link to click on just below the flash
like "MAKE SURE YOU`RE PREPARED". and link it to your products, or to your product directories.

Don`t let the customers wander about aimlessly, you have to make sure they know what the want and where to get it (and on the way expose them to similar products)

One odd issue, in FireFox 2.x: when I opened up the tab to your site, I couldn`t click back to this tab. Somehow, it stole the focus. I had to close the tab entirely.

What`s interesting to me is a deep and psychological problem. We had a number of discussions in the past about a site offering protection to parents for missing children. Similar to your business, where the protection is related to natural disasters.

I think there are two fundamental approaches to life, one being catastrophic, the other being more optimistic. Both are fine, as long as they`re not taken to extremes. There`s no question that we *should* take into account the possibility of disasters. But do we take into account "possibilities" or "the likelihood?"

That leads to the two basic types of sales: fear or opportunity.

Right now, your site is sort of passive in the sense that you lay out the types of disasters that can take place, with options for various types of preparation. So the question is whether you want to strengthen the fear side or the opportunity side?

That`s a personal decision, but it matters because it`ll define the next step of any modifications you make to the existing site. Make sense?
