I recommend doing a lot of research into the market before you move forward with your ideas.  Music + social networking is HOT as you know.  But that means A LOT of people/businesses are entering this space.  I can tell you I`ve met many people like you who have an idea for a music social network.

Here is a question you asked:  "Can someone suggest a website where musicians go to socialize so that I can get an idea of what they want, and need that are not currently being provided?"  It`s a good question and a great place to start.  But what it tells me is that you aren`t very familiar with the market.  Spend some time finding out what else is out there and if you can, what is in development.

If you`re going to do this, you need to create something different than what is already being offered.  Doing the research will help you formulate your plan.
