Hello,
My name is Richard.

I am looking forward to my new and exciting business as a social network provider. I got the idea from having Apple iTunes selling music for less than a buck per song and 2 bucks for a music video.

I also like Youtube allowing people to post their own videos online for free.

Napster, I had Napster, and I like the opportunity to just pay a service fee to listen to an unlimited amount of songs on their website without downloading it.

My Space is a great general social networking website where people talk about anything.

The first business I plan on opening up is the Music Social Website.
On this site, I plan on creating a My space type social network solely for new, and unheard of Musicians around the world, with the combination of selling their songs and albums to their listeners to download, and as well as for the music artist to film their music videos and allow their fans to download their Music Videos just like itunes sell music with labels for a fee. However, I would also include a Napster like service where anyone can view an artist work (Music & Videos) but at the same time having a tight security to prevent the viewers from downloading the content without paying for them.

Advertisers will fund this business heavily, as well as income from media download which would be shared with the artist.

The other Business I plan is a news media company.

Actually two of them. One site is a dot com, and another is a dot tv.

First the dot com media business would be a free service to everyone wanting to get the latest news from around the world. The website would be a compilation of news media from around the world using both text and video content.

Here is my problem. I need to know how to get the news content from the news company that published the content. It would kind of be like Google, but I wold like the content to be fully readable from my website just like a newspaper. In fact, I want it to be an online newspaper for members can read news from different news provider directly from my website. Also the Videos that were released from the News Media.

The dot tv business would be a social website for journalists to post their own news worthy content online for free and be able to share it with millions of people around the world.

What do you think about my idea?
I hope to hear feedback from allot of people on what you think my business would become of.

Thanks,
Richard Anilao

Richard,

You can try to use RSS feeds from various news sources to automatically feed your web site. The issue you will find is copyright protection. Most (if not all) news reports are copyrighted by the provider.

The provider may allow use of RSS feed but you`ll need to check with each provider you contemplating.

Richard, I`ll tell you the same thing I tell everyone else that comes to the forum and asks that question. It doesn`t matter what we think. None of us have a crystal ball. None of us can predict the success or failure of a business idea. If you believe in your idea and vision, do the proper viability research and make it happen. I understand that you`re just looking for some positive feedback or reinforcement, and that`s fine. But what I or anyone else thinks is immaterial. If you truly believe in your idea, then take the proper steps to make it happen.

Thanks Roland.

I was thinking of having using that idea, and as for getting the news I thought about subscribing to a news network like News Portal in which they provide the news, and pay me to host advertisment onto my site. Is this such a great idea? Does Any one else know?

As for my music social netwoking website, can someone suggest a website where musicians go to socialize so that I can get an idea of what they want, and need that are not currently being provided?

I am sure that there is some kind of Music Network out there, but I just don`t know where I can find them.

Thanks all for your wonderful responds.

There are lots of social networking sites built around music...some are niche like unsigned.com . It takes a lot of work to build up a community and you should always know who "else" is out there, what you would do differently or what service you can provide better. Think about it from a different view maybe, what would YOU be passionate about doing everyday...build a concept around it and make sure that others also would be interested. Where would the music come in? My Partners and I are building out a new service network site and have worked for months building out just the architecture, srs, as we did this after alot of research and feedback. We also Are building in music as a large part of the service. We did not go into this....thinking...how can we sell music through an affilate etc..we strategized on how this would work hand in hand and also how it can have a exspansive growth effect through the benefits we will be offering. You just don`t want to pay 10 to 20 k to build a structure for a social network and kick in the ability to buy music... what would encourage those sales...there is alot behind that. And alot of people who need to help.

I think you can do this...but think it through.

Dale King,
Thanks for your input, and positive feedback.

However, what I am looking for is some critiziation that can make my idea stronger so that my business idea can get off the ground and grow overtime and eventually into a billion dollar business. In other words I need the criticism that I can get so that my business can be the best that it can be.

Though I do see where you are coming from in which, no one really knows where I am going with this business, and only I can see where I really want to go. But without the suggestions and criticism, my business will not get outside the pre-start up stage as I am in right now.

I have learned from high school that it is good to take criticism from others so that you can improve your idea, however, taking that criticism personally is what ruins your entire idea and thoughts.

I believe what they were trying to teach me is to always have an open mind, and to not take criticism personally because it is only a feedback that other people are giving you in their thoughts about your works, ideas, and creations.

Thanks a lot.

For the social networking part of it I would suggest a company called Kickapps www.kickapps.com I used them for my pet social network www.tailtube.com and the software and integration of their service was very well done, and free.  so you could get it off the ground using their free ad supported verion, and then once you have the traffic, switch over to their paid version and start making money.

Hey you know what mymobiminder,

I live in San Francisco Bay Area in California, and I will be attending the Web2.0 Convention this week, and guess what? Kickapps would be there too with their booth.
So I would be looking forward to talking to them about their service!!!

Lucky Me I Just Can`t WAIT!!

Darn I thought this thing has HTML because I was going to put an image from Web2.0.

But its in Moscone Center April 22 to 25th. It would be in other places too. :)

Anilao,

I hope I can help. I have done a ton of research on this topic...and I have to say...there is so much work involved....thus why I am still awake at 2 am and will be back up by 6. I can tell you a bit about what we are up to and maybe have some ideas that we can bounce off eachother. I have had a few rfp on such a site but...when the rubber hits the road alot of folks aren`t ready to jump in b/c you really have to do the work before you just decide to drop some money at developers and a team. It is much more than that. Luckily we have access to some really great stuff, namely top notch developers and some really cool technology that we have been developing which I can share a bit with you on. My partner and I have been working together for over 2 years on projects, and alot of time for others but we have built a few successful together ourselves. I will try to help you out as much as possible, maybe give you some ideas or resources or contacts to help you get to where you want to go. Where are you located? I am on the East Coast, I live and work in Va but also work in Manhattan on a once a month for a week. If you are close maybe we can catch up, or feel free to pm me and I can send you my contact info. What makes you feel that this is what you want to do? Just curious?

It`s funny today is my Birthday.. :) ..the big 31! I finally got an IPod and have been using it all night....music is such a neat thing, and I love having only my favorite songs available instead of the cd thing. I have done research on different music affiliates and may have some ideas for you. I look forward to catching up with you.
