I would like to start my own business that consist of a Hair/Nail Salon with Barbers on hand and a Clothing Store attached to the building. There are alot of Salons in the area that I live in but none of them have anything like I want to have. I think It will bring in a lot of money because you can get all services done in one location. So what do you think? Please if you have anything negative to say without anything positive, please do not respond!!!

Thanks in advance for your imput,

Ms. Baton Rouge, LA

I think you need to carve out a niche market, If you try to appeal just to the general public I believe it will not be an easy go. Hair and clothes are not my thing but what I envision say you had a tattoo shop, you know what type of clothing would sell there. That is what I am thinking to focus on a specific group or age and do your research and target them.

Best of Luck!

I don`t think this is a good time to start a personal services business with the economy as it is now. Sure, there`s people who will always get their hair and nails done but in general, this is the area in which people economize first. They`ll go an extra week or two between trims or recoloring. The matter being, existing businesses will be fighting amongst each other for a shrinking piece of the pie. They have advantages with an established presence and retail base to say nothing of having business experience while you`d be climbing the learning curve.

As far as the model of clothing in a salon, others have done this somewhat successfully. The best way it seems to work is to sell the clothing on consignment -provided you can find independents to supply you.

I work with new businesses every day. I teach self employment training programs and have a business coaching business.

It is much harder today with the economy, but not impossible.

Doing a feasibility study will determine whether this a good idea or not.

Good Luck!

Hi,

I go to a Barber in Minneapolis that is a family owned business.  They are on a busy corner but have an extremely small store.  Half of it is a barber shop and the other half is owned by a different family and they tailor clothes.  Both places are extremely cheap and I find myself killing two birds with one stone.

Buying real-estate now is a good investment with the market almost at rock bottom.  Have you considered buying and renting out multiple offices...barber, tailor, and maybe a dry cleaners?

Hello Mrs Baton Rouge I was wondering if you ever opened up that salon and spa that you wanted. I am actually thinking about doing the same thing. I live in a very small city well at least to me. And I feel this would be a great place to start a business like that and I am thinking about opening a Night Club as well. Just a couple nights a week so any suggestions will help

No offense, but everyone wants to start a clothing store... you need to design a brand that separates yourself from the rest and makes you stand out... or you will become one of many failed attempts.

can you tell I`m a designer?

What ever you do, don`t go in.  If you don`t have the money for both, then just do one and work your way into the other line of business.

Its a profitable idea but to get more profit you should advertise your shop
