As I`m based in Sydney Australia I have no idea how my website is functioning in the USA. As I am using a Java Applet for online publishing I would appreciate any trials of online logo personlaization. Just go to the home page and hit the green demo button.
Thanks in advance......Kevin

Hi Kevin :-)

I`m using Firefox 1.0 on a DSL line, Win98SE. First, you have some typos and grammatical errors on the front page. Those should be fixed. Secondly, it should be $71 not "seventy one dollars." That`s a really weird number! But...hey...it caught my attention, so maybe a good marketing move.

I clicked the Demo button and got to the first page of steps. It took me awhile to figure out that I had to click the red button. I figured I could click anywhere in the graphic, or anywhere in the text for the Step 1 button. Nothing happened until I hit the little red button.

Then it took quite a while to load. I think about 30 seconds, which as you know is fairly long on a DSL connection. At that point, the demo crashed. All I saw was a red "x" at the upper left corner of what I suppose was the preview box. I couldn`t edit anything, insert anything, change anything, etc. Dunno why.

Here`s what I saw:  screenshot

We actually have a community member doing something similar to this. I can`t remember the post, but it was a couple of months ago. The idea seems reasonable, but for those who only need a generic logo. I approached this demo in that frame of mind---fast, easy, inexpensive being the top priorities.

If I`d gone beyond that, I would`ve wanted to know in what format I`d get this final logo. I`d hope it would be vector-based, as in an .EPS file, or in Photoshop format. I`d want a transparent background layer, so I could put this logo onto whatever background I wanted (like on a Web page). To that end, it`d be nice to speak about that on the home page.

Woah!!...I just went to close out the tab and hit the back button. First, I see that I could`ve clicked on the Step 1 area, which NOW is highlighted a different color. That didn`t happen originally.

Far worse, the options to choose were all different! Is this a dynamic page? I hate those! I clicked again on the Step 1, not that there was any hint that I could do this, and the options changed again! That`s just not fair. :-) You should have ALL the option available to a scrollbar. That`s what I would`ve expected, and I think what anyone would expect.

Very well done overall but some of the copy is poorly written. The "Welcome To The Logo Consulate" heading and subsequent paragraphs are not well written or properly sized/formatted. You`re using some very worn out ideas ... this will cost thousands elsewhere ... etc. People don`t pay attention to worn out ideas.

Actually, I couldn`t wait for the middle section to load, call me impatient but.....Then when I attempted to back out it locked my browser up and crashed IE 6. I`m guessing it`s the applet that was causing this and I strongly suggest you try developing it in Flash instead, it`s much more browser friendly and people wont ever have to download an applet plugin. Other than that the site looked fine.

Thanks Craig and OUCH!!! Obvioulsy we are going to need to do more testing, tweaking and editing. The x button means that you don`t have a Java enabled in your browser. I will hand over your thoughts to my tech team.

Craig I really appreciate your feedback.

Regards
Kevin

I actually do have Java enabled in Firefox, as it`s required for some of my banks and for Startup Nation. I`ve enable Java, and enabled Javascript.

I think there`s a site validator...somewhere? I know designers here often speak about having a site validated, meaning it`s tested for all available browsers and all versions, then you get a report of problem areas. :-)

Thanks for the feedback - yes It is poorly written and perhaps you could provide me with a quote to re write ? Just to damn busy with other priorities.

I`m interested to know whether or not you were able to demo the logo personalisation ?

Regards
kevin

Thanks Jeff, yeah I`m a bit confused about the functionality at the moment. The speed is a concern. It seems to be loading quickly in Australia. So I will have to get my tech team to analyse the problem.
No what you mean about Flash however it has it`s limitaions also.

I really appreciate your time on this and I would like to stay in touch.

Cheers
Kevin
