I know it seems to be unfair that entrepreneurs outside the United States face even more challenges to access early-stage financing or growth capital.
In your particular situation, you being located in India will in fact remain an obstacle that will be extremely hard to overcome. For instance, how do you propose to run the business, how will you be able to monetize your idea, and how do you think you will be able to assess cultural differences if you don’t have any insights into markets outside of India? I guess what I’m trying to say is that even though you think you have a great idea for a board game, what makes you believe that people outside your circle will feel the same way?
On the upside, your idea of putting a digital version of your game on the net, seems interesting as doing so will eliminate most of these obstacles. Another idea is licensing the rights to your game to an established company who will essentially take care of marketing your game while you simply collect royalties.
Now, while it’s my understanding that there isn’t an established Angel Investor scene in India, there are quite a few very wealthy people in India. Have you considered approaching some of them with your proposal? Another thought is simply replicating researching & prospecting strategies that are used here in the U.S. to identify High-Net-Worth Individuals.
There’s a white paper available on our website that details every single step of identifying, researching, and communicating with high-net-worth individuals. In my judgment, most of these strategies can be replicated in India or any other geographical region. I think this might create a great starting point for you. The white paper is available at http://publications.fastventures.com/reaching-high-net-worth-individuals-with-your-private-placement.
