NJ,

I think it was the march 4th Podcast that had an individual who knew the market and had connections to do what your asking.

Another point,  I have someone working under me who lived in china for many years  as a plant manager of some sort  and we discussed things over there  and he said to be careful,  don`t just hire someone, make sure you have someone on the ground over there.

He didn`t give me any details but because the laws are so different over there, trust not and have your own people on the ground.  It sounds like you may not be able to do that personally,   but if you have an agent that you can trust it may be just as good,

from a friend, just be aware.

Also plan to visit China in October for business and I have a close friend who is currently working with a manufacturer and seems very satisfied. Any other general resources you could point me to (i.e. books, websites aside from the ones listed on the thread) are greatly apprecited.

Hi, I have a bunch of misc info that might be useful.
A link you might be interested in is:

I haven`t used these guys yet, but they seem like they have their act together.

One of the interesting things in China is everyone seems to do everything. You rarely hear "No, we don`t do that here" This can be good and bad. It`s best to find a mfg. that`s doing something similar to what you`re doing now. Make them prove it to you. (show you their products)

Where are you going in China? October is a good time for cooler weather, but depending on the business, they still might be in the Christmas panic. By November business has cooled down, and there is more time to meet.

Your friend will should talk to you about freight and customs brokers. The minute the product crosses the bow of the ship it`s yours. Your freight forwarder will become a key part of your business. You can start learning about that process now.

NJ,

Sorry for the delayed response.  Our company can assist you in the sourcing of a clothing manufacturer if you are interested. You can reach me directly at 248-670-0040 and we can discuss your needs.  Our company is Transpoint Asia, a Hong Kong based comapny (Doing business in the United States as WorldSource).  We are located in Hong Kong and assist companies in the sourcing of goods in Southeast Asia. Our CEO lives in mainland China and is a US citizen with over 15 years of China experience. Most of the time, we do not buy and re-sell.  We typically find the source for you, negotiate the terms for you with the factory, and program manage your procurement. We are currently handling the procurement for a textile company located in Southern California.  Before we met, the customer was purchasing goods from 10 differen factores located from the North to the South.  We were able to consolidate the factories close to the Hong Kong port which created efficiencies and freight savings.  Depending on what level of involvement you plan to have in the process, we can tailor a program based on your needs.

Feel free to call me at 248-670-0040 and we can discuss this in further detail.

Best Regards,

mj
