I see now... Only problem is most of my ideas I like the most are service ideas, like a cable service, or digital distribution service content provider to the consumers. Digital Distribution may require tons of cash to pay copy right holders, even during test processes. Most or all of my ideas requires millions of dollars to research I think, just because they are extremely profitable I think.  The more profitable I think they are, the more it may cost to research, and especially if it’s a service and/or technology related product.

Your ideas for digital distribution are good, but I assure a lot of other people have already thought of this and are already implementing solutions.

The contest for digital distribution is not going to be won by ideas, it`s going to be won by execution.

You should do yourself a favor and find a smaller business that you have all the tools or could reasonably get the tools for, and start that business instead.

Or get a computer science degree and code your ideas yourself.

Another problem here is "attainable goals."

All of us can come up with ideas that cost millions of dollars to try, would make millions in profit (maybe), and require new inventions and major changes in manufacturing.

For example, my idea is to use nano-technology to develop a new form of fabric that changes from pliable to rigid during the sewing stage, then back to pliable after sewing is finished. It`ll make billions, but it requires an invention that doesn`t yet exist.

The point is, so what? I could envision faster-than-light travel, teleportation, and a "tri-corder" to help the medical industry. I can spend the rest of my life wishing I had the money for them. I can spend the rest of my life grumbling that it`s no fair, I don`t have enough investors.

Or, I can spend the rest of my life looking for ideas that I can actually work with on my own. I can look for ideas I can afford, that use current technology, and that have a market right now. Not later.

We can come up with all sorts of reasons and excuses for doing nothing. Some of those excuses "sound like" they`re just the way of the world. They have nothing to do with personal choice, it`s just life. But if you look more closely, you see they`re excuses for staying out of the game.

Now I understand. So how about being a serial entrepreneur, like building a company from stretch with my idea(s), then sell it once its valued for a high price or whenever I get bored of working the idea.

The Digital Distribution idea is mainly an idea of mine because as a loyal and knowledgeable consumer, I see there is an extremely high demand for digital distribution. At least in the U.S. which many (or most) pirates admit they only pirate because of the lack of online legal digital distribution content providers, and see doing piracy is to only fulfill their needs for On-Demand media content, fastest and easiest. Many are very willing to pay, they`re just not enough online digital distribution content providers to serve them world wide. Right now there is only music (iTunes), video games (Steam), and kind of TV and movies (iTunes for download, Hulu.com for stream, which hulu.com only serves [I`ve been told] the U.S. ). My idea may not be very unique on digital distribution, but my entrepreneur instincts tells me, any idea that is profitable and businesses are ignoring that, and if there is a high demanding market for it, try to tap into that market. Digital Distribution will be the next big thing, like the .com era. Between now and at least 2020.

I think you`ve got the idea. It rests on "building a company." The selling part will certainly be nice, and definitely is a worthwhile goal. If it happens, terrific. If not, you`ll still make some money. :-)

But it all starts by creating value! That doesn`t mean saying you`re going to create value, it means actually creating something and demonstrating that it`s valuable. Only then will people pay you money for whatever you`ve created.

Hello Chrisj0401. I am a Business Consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area and i specialize in helping entrepreneurs "making their ideas reals". I would like to give you my opinion and as it follows most other posts here opinions, i would strongly suggest you follow it. I think someone else said it perfectly before...slow down. Do your research. Dont study rapidly and be sloppy in an attempt get started as soon as possible. the statistics are amazing to me, only 5% of all startups survive their 5 year mark! dont include yourself in this category. Go to the library and make some phone calls (and be persistent until you get the answers you want, AND NEED). Ask a professional - First off, get multiple opinions and leverage the best opinions of them all, as well as doing additional research to ensure your answer is right. Dont run off the first opinions and answers you ge eithert! DO NOT make the mistake of not making sure your answer was the right one to run off with. Second off, (this is an important one, and one of the aspects of ALL successfull businessmen) asking a professional and researching NEVER (let me re-emphasize....NEVER)  stops. Keep asking when you venture into something that requires you to do something new (or hire someone new...never TRUST an agent or rep without knowing, at least, a little of what they are saying and doing. There ARE some real sleezes out there. Be careful)
There are also services in every city that are there specifically for educating new and small businesses. Start Up Nation is an AMAZING tool. Become deeply entwined with it. There are also chamber of commerces, city annexes, city halls, entrepreneul centers, and other organizations in various places. Online is a wonderful tool but a one on one is ten times better! Be creative, use your imagination and learn everything you think you might need to know about your business ideas, their industries, their competitors, financing available, licensing needed, pyschographics, demographics, trends, assisstance available, marketing, advertising, management, all legal aspects, hiring, empoyee training, etc, ect. i could go on forever but thats for you to do.
TAKE NOTES THE WHOLE TIME.
When you can answer any question about your business, you are ready to start and complete your business plan. (DO NOT make your business plan first before you do your research! Think for yourself in what you need to know. It WILL stick more than doing this vice-versa. Knowledge is power). Most people take from 3 to 6 months to finish this but thats because they have to do research at every corner. YOU wont need to do this because you will already know the answers. But if you cant answer something, do yourself a favor and......take a guess at what im gonna say!? STUDY!
Lastly, there are not many consultants out there that do what i do but they are out there and worth it if their any good. Check your local area for someone who can guide you and help you in all this and putting it all toegther. i dont mean a marketing agency or financial institute, they only help in one aspcect of business or another (even lets say 2 or 3) but not all. Most businesses follow the advice and require the help of up to 7 or 8 seperate companies and become confused and overwhelmed with everything coming at them. Try to find a general business development consultant like myself, who can help you throughout the WHOLE prcoess of the making the biggest decision and idea of your life come true. GOOD LUCK

Chris,
Re-reading this whole topic, then seeing what Jonathan wrote, I got to thinking. Your original problem is "too many ideas."

From a psychological perspective, the main question is why do you have so many ideas? Not why does your brain work, but how come you so quickly jump from idea to idea, see?

I think a lot of people somehow believe that starting a business is pretty simple. You come up with an idea, then "somehow" (and it`s a HUGE "somehow") start making lots of money doing something.

This may sound off-the-wall, but I`d like you to think about the following question. It`s analogous to your question, but brings out the underlying problem:

"I have lots of girlfriends, but I don`t know how to get one of them pregnant?"

Starting a business is very much like deciding to have a child. And the overall business "life" is very similar as well. The amount of time at the beginning is intense, with all the potential and unknowns wrapped together. You constantly wonder what you`re doing wrong, or if you`re doing the right thing to build a healthy life.

There`s never-ending questions, anxiety, and study. But there`s also tremendously rewarding moments when you get a first sale (baby`s first word), get a smile, get a contract, and so forth.

A business isn`t really "just something to do." It`s a decision as to how you`re going to fundamentally change your life for years and years into the future. Choosing "the idea" is similar to how you would decide to get married. See?

I think you`re getting yourself overwhelmed by looking at fully in-place, long-term businesses, but not seeing how they started out. You might want to check some books out of the library that are biographies of successful entrepreneurs. Read about all they went through at the start.

It`ll help you understand that business people are regular people, just like yourself. They learned how to make a business. They weren`t born with everything in place. ;-)

Thing is I`m not even trying hard to get creative ideas. The ideas come so easy and naturally. I`ve never yet thought hard on creative ideas, but if I did I’d have, from having a few books of naturally creative ideas to having even more books one single idea. And not that just since I am financially dirt poor my mind just tells me to get any way possible to make some cash from skills I have, which right now my greatest skill is creative thought.
