Hi everyone,

I plan on having an open house April 3rd and will contact vendors I feel would be interested in my products -salons, spas, beauty supply stores, herbal shops.  I will have folders with all the info, photos etc... and this way they can find out about us.  To not overwhelm myself, I am limiting tickets to 75 only available.  Just wanted to share with my fellow SUN members.  I love sharing my journey.

Katherine,

I think for your products, that is a great idea.  I would sweeten the deal a little with some free goods to make sure they show up.  Everyone likes free stuff!!  Good luck,

Correction, the 23rd There will be samples for them to take.  I figure since I don`t have the money to participate in outside trade shows, why not create my own inexpensive event.

I am offering the same kind of open house myself. Only this will be for friends, and friends of friend who can buy my jewelry as well as offer up ideas and suggestions. So far I have a lot of interest and will be adding an extra night. I`m offering door prizes, and discounts for quanity, friend referrals, and custom orders. I`ve also enlisted a friend who is thinking about launching her own dessert catering business to cater my event and perhaps help her decide if this is an idea for her to really pursue. Best of luck with your event!

Thank you.  I am targeting spas, salons and beauty supply stores.  I will keep the tickets to a max of 60 and 15 spots, free for the press.  My plan, with the help of a friend overseas as well is to do a mass mailing with samples in May internationally.  Good luck to everyone.

If you need any help with your mass mailing in May, please let me know.  I can assist.  Lots of luck with your open house.  It`s sounds like a great idea to hold your own event.

Thank You.  I am really strapped and would be unable to pay for your services.  I have actually decided to really start with a narrow target and go to with herb and holistic shops in New York, New Jersey and Florida. I just have to double check all the addresses.   I am now trying to compile a list of these to email and invite.  I originally put out the press release that tickets were $20 and that would be deducted from their first purchase and they had to provide their tax id/re-sale number when purchasing the ticket.  I am now wondering if that was a good idea.  I wanted to screen who came and make sure they were serious buyers.  I hope I made the right decision.

Putting on your own show is as old as the Little Rascals, right?  I applaud you for doing whatever it takes to make it happen.  When you mention that you have invited the press, I thought "what a great idea!"  I wonder if you thought about posting the wording to your press invite here on the PR forum to get feedback from the many PR professionals at SuN?  People like Shannon and I would benefit from that as well.

I happen to know that Shannon`s jewelry is reasonably priced and really beautiful.  Shannon, I think you should invite the press to your event.

Also, I think Shannon`s idea of including a new caterer in the event to get the catering done for free is wonderful!  Katherine, maybe an up-and-coming photographer would love to be there to offer free portraits (if you are doing makeovers) or at least to document the event?  Or maybe you know someone who has an organic line of clothing and they could pay you to get in on the event and gain exposure to these potential clients.  Finding other companies who target the same market with different products can increase your potential customer`s interest and add value to the event without adding expense.

Hope that helps!  Let us know here how that goes.

After talking to my tax guy and an attorney, I was told stick with retail until your firm has insurance, don`t move to big too fast.  What I may do is turn it into a retail event where people can come, see samples and shop.  I don`t have the funds to buy a whole bunch of samples to ship out or have on hand.  Starting retail is fine.
