Hi, I am new to the community.  I am in the process of starting a home based business.  I create pampering kits,  healing soap, lotion, candles, etc.  My products are organic and homemade.

I am nervous about going into business for myself because I wonder if I will make enough money.  I live in the state of Michigan, which is experiencing a depression.

I am hoping and looking for support from other like minded people who are entering the world of owning their own business.  I can also use advice as I navigate through the initial phase of creating and running a successful business.

Hi Deb,

Congrats on starting your own business, in addition to owning a telecom business my wife and I also own a franchise called The Little Gym in Toronto.  The best way to get your business started with a limited budget is to create sample works and ask local businesses with a similar customer base to display it along with some of your marketing materials.  You can also have them raffle it off, getting some warm leads that way.  Toys r us sometimes lets local businesses set up a table during special events.  Also consider contacting some local moms groups, check out meetup.com for ones near you.  Check your local community for craft fairs as they are usually inexpensive to get a table.  Hope this helps a bit, good luck!
