DefMall and Officesuite, selling online is not something that I have considered.  To be quite honest (and it`s kind of embarrasing) I am a bit intimidated of online selling.  Do I do Ebay or make my own site?  I don`t know how to make or maintain my own and Ebay already seems saturated with sellers.  I know that this intimidation deal is definatley holding me back, I just thought that I could just deal with it later on.  Perhaps I need to get it out of the way now.

Also, the reasons I was looking into the market that  I am is 1. I agree with their philosophy.  90% of the permanent stalls there are minority owned.  Whether it is be AA, women, Hispanics or otherwise.  2. the turnover rate is quite small.  I have only seen one stall close in the past year.  3. Thousands of people come there daily to shop eat and work.  The foot traffic is AMAZING!  Finally, I live in the same building so there isn`t really a transportation issue either.

I went to talk to the soap stand lady and she appeared to be VERY suspicious.  She was not interested at all in sharing any of her business or product knowledge with me for whatever her reasons were.  Also her space is PACKED with her soaps and oils.

I think that ultimatley, I am going to just have to go back to the SCORE office to regroup because I have made HUGE changes to my initial plan.  Thanks again for all of the input.  I have so much to consider.

DO NOT QUIT!

The advice you got here was not to talk you `out` of it, but to make sure that you had all the right infomation in place so that you could go into it and turn a profit.

I was not suprised that you got the reaction you did from the soap stand. Retail is a tough business, and often a person won`t share information if it means losing potential market share. HOWEVER - if you could make it worth her while...what if you offered to may some of the rent for her for 1 month in exchange for some shelf space?

Also, don`t let the Internet scare you off. Yes, there are a million billion eCommerce sites out there...but the ones who market intelligently and offer something more than a product and a price tag will do well.

Feel free to e-mail me if you`d like to talk more about your business plan and strategies. I have nothing to sell you. Def_Mall_owner@hotmail.com

Thanks so much DefMall.  I wasn`t even thinking of quitting, I think I was just letting the details get to me!  I really am starting over from what I initially envisioned.  Actually, I was writing out my new business plan when I noticed that I had another response to my thread.  All the advice I have gotten on here has been great and provided me with a lot of new insights.  I will be emailing you as well with a few questions since you so generously offered.
