I currently have a great idea involving a guaranteed hit in the food industry, Kraft and Near east foods would take the idea and shelve it within a year easily!!! Don`t know how to approach the company with my plan?

Big corporations get routinely pitched with ideas I am sure.

The products the decide to bring to market involve some really
complex testing beforehand.  You may have a great idea but it
may never see the light of day.

Consider that the corporate interest must be convinced that the
product is worth investing in advertising, package design and
sacrifice of shelf space occupied by already successful products.

The retail grocery industry is really all about shelf-space and impulse-buy
attractiveness.

Personally I think you should locate a consultant who understands this
industry and pay that person to assist you in locating a corporate entity
with the resources, infrastructure and industry clout to make your
idea successful.

Kraft actually has a website for you to submit your ideas.  Be careful about the ownership of your idea - you want to make sure you still own it after you submit it.  Here is the URL.

Good luck.

Just out of curiousity, how do you know it is going to be a hit if you have not already pitched it?  There are also a lot of regulations within the food industry that you should probably consider inside and out before going to a company like Kraft or TK.  You mention being able to go to market within a year, however I would imagine things are slow with the FDA (they are a government agency afterall) companies like the ones you are suggesting do a pretty thorough job of market analysis prior to releasing on a large scale.

I believe there are a few SUNners in the food industry that may be able to make suggestions. I vaguely remember someone mentioning the `Food Show` where you could test your idea. I prefer the local build-up approach wherein you create a reasonably small amount of the product and test it with local consumers in a local shop. If it catches on you can build up from there.

Good luck!
