I run a chiropractic office and personal training studio, so my clients obviously need to come visit my location.  We have a website, and it is working quite well and consistently improving in ranking and showing up on the first page or pages on most relevant searches.  I am wondering how Google and Yahoo determine which sites go on the top portion in the map section.  There doesn`t seem to be much correlation between those on the map and those that show up in the organic listing.

What can be done to show up in the top section?

If you actually click on the map I show up within the top 4-6, but not on the original search page.  What`s up?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you listed in the Yellow Pages?
Have you examined Local Google?

I think it has more to do with your keywords and your title of your listing than the site itself when it comes to google maps. I am assuming that you already set yourself up as a business in local google to be there at all, but if you have not this would be why you show up lower than desired. I also think age could be a factor. I set up a few businesses up about 2 years ago and we have been number 1 ever since. It used to be number 1 of 5 and now we are 1 of dozens in those keywords.

Yeah, did you submit this listing yourself through Google Local?  Can you post a link to your listing so I can look at it to make some suggestions?

I am pretty sure we`ve done Google Local, but will check.  We are located on Yellowpages, and some other dirctory sites.  I am not sure what link you are looking for, but let me know if this works.  Our listing is usually around "h" and titled "De Novo Pittsburgh Chiropractic & Health."

It's all about your key words.  Add good content to your listings and your organic rankings will increase over time.
