Hi Kristin. First of all, your jewelry is gorgeous. I found a problem when trying to checkout. During checkout, in the "Registration" section

  • Quick checkout on future orders
  • Easy Order Tracking
  • Special Offers
  • Email Address:

      Benefits of Registering:
    Create a new password:
    Type it again:

It says "email address" but I couldn`t enter mine. There`s no "field" for it. I tried but only got one letter in, then each time tried to backspace it out it took me to the prior page. I`m using firefox so it could possibly be that but I tried it 4 times and stopped. I have a clothing website and also have trouble with conversions. How were you able to find your competitors conversion rates? This retail website business is so challenging isn`t it? I love it but it`s so stressful trying to get people to your site and to successfully check out!! Best of luck to you, Kristin.

    Best regards,

Thank you for pointing out that issue, Renee. I had no idea that was going on. I don`t think it is a Firefox thing because I use Firefox also. I will DEFINITELY  check into that! :-)

The retail business is pretty cut-throat, but I have found that superior customer service really keeps people coming back. Most of the big players cannot/do not deliver the level of service of the "boutiques." Instead of spending a lot on SEM or relying solely on SEO, we have found some great partnerships with niche bloggers and review sites, and even some incentive/rewards and gift certificate sites. They have been great for getting traffic. But there is no substitute for thoughtful SEO. Do you do your own SEO? If so, and if you need help, I strongly recommend SEObook.com. You have to buy the book (which includes free updates). It is worth every penny! I went from 25 visitors a month to 100 per day in about 2 months. My page rank also went from a 0 to 4 in about 6 months.

I found my competitors conversion rates by visiting trade organization sites and reading news stories and press releases. InternetRetailer.com is great for digging this info up, but you do have to dig through a lot of news! One site you could do some digging on is Fibre 2 Fashion - a trade site for the fabric/garment industry.
