Regardless of your situation, it is a worthwhile endeavor to educate yourself on the various methods that you can utilize to generate revenue so that you can decide what, if anything, is appropriate for your community. Discretion is important.

How about starting a blog pertaining to the niche subject and promoting it throughout the board so that you'll get some of your members as followers. Blogs are easier to monetize because you can write out (discreet) advertisements for particular products or services, etc. Then you can build off of that.

Adsense is the best choice for Webmaster, you will get good revenue.

Ads can take your users away (either by clickaways or by wearing them out), so what seems like revenue at first won't last very long unless you have a strong funnel to attract new users.

New revenue ideas are being tested all the time.  Keep your eye open for non-Ad based revenue that aligns closely with the themes and spirit of your forum.   Example: The healthcare debates have spawned the need for all sorts of expert opinion gathering, so if you run a forum which dovetails to medical, political, family, sporting, or travel interests, a service such as uHance may be right for both your revenue needs and your community interests.

I have used Facebook as a business tool for a while now. Not normal business but for things such as getting more exposure to something I am doing on my forum. Finding pages and posting on them has always shown me great results and as long as it's actually relevant which is what I aim for the owner of said page never minds.

I've never been sold to Facebook. This strategy is only effective your company is quite popular. I think you should make a facebook fanpage and increase more than thousand likes then you could get revenue.
