Hi everyone,

This is my first post on SN. My name is Riccardo and I live in Switzerland.

I have been considering opening my startup for quite a while and now I'm closer than ever.

I am going over all the potential sources of income and expenditures, however I struggle to forecast the potential web development costs (close to reality!).

I hope you can help me with this. The idea is to create something similar to TripAdvisor, but in a different industry/topic.

The website I want to work on would require:

  • Locations list
  • Geotagged pictures (will be provided)
  • content categorization
  • business listings
  • Advertisement
  • Comments
  • Rating
  • FB connect
  • Upload your picture

Do you have any idea how I could reasonably forcast the cost of such a website?

Obviously I would need to add design on top of that, but that's a different matter I guess.

Is it worth it to get in touch with any "full-spectrum" agency that might take care of both development and design? Or is it generally more expensive?

Thank you very much in advance!

Riccardo

Hi Ricardo,

Congratulations on embarking on your start up project!

If you do not have any idea on how much such a site cost to develop, post it as a job on Elance.com or Odesk.com.

On Odesk you'll need to post it with an estimated budget - browse similar projects and see what others are estimating for their projects. If you're not getting any responses, you're budget is too low. Revise budget and repeat.

On Elance, you can post your project and list the budget as "not sure". Responses will give you a good idea about the budget range.

Also, you'll get better and more accurate project bids if you provide more specific requirements for your project.

Hope that helps.

Regards,
