The single offer or single focus is good and typically the approach for a landing page, although you can employ that practice for a website`s home/main page.
If you go to quicken now, you`ll see their home page is quite different than the one given as an example in the article. Quicken also has one thing that another website may not - name recognition... which makes a single focus approach easier to be effective. Arguably they do not have to tell the viewer who they are or about their expertise before the viewer will read on.
Clean and simple with a specific focus is a good approach.... which is easier to employ if you have one product or service. For those (most) with many, landing pages with a single focus can be a successful choice... or at least restrict your home (or main landing page) to two maybe three items of focus.
