I guess I didn`t phrase my question correctly...I am looking more for personal experiences from people who started out and what they personally did to convince people to give them a shot.

Well if you have a plan laid out and got professional help with it, the next thing to do would be to get experience and get out there and *fail* (:   It`s the best way to learn. About 80% of all sales are made on the SIXTH contact with a client... So if you have the right mindset, then you won`t have to convince anyone, even if you have no lines. Just be genuine and tell them you are starting up but share with them what value you can bring to THEM, what problems you can solve for their company. Good luck, keep us updated on the process.

Hi,

lizzers, as luck has it i am looking for commssion sales reps as well. You can represent kingdom mines if you want to.

Anyway this is what i do, i am a major shareholder of a mine in south east asia that deals with facetted rubies and sapphires( of all colors). You can google us to have a better idea.

Next time someone asks you you can say you represent us, a mining entity that deals in precious stones. Sounds good enough for a start.

Do contact me if you are interested

You may not be currently carrying any lines, but that doesn`t necessarily mean that you haven`t in the past.  If you have the international experience, you should gather professional references of people that would be able to advocate for you.  This will let others in the industry know that you have an established track record with proven results.  Nothing is better than having someone else endorse your quality work.  I`ve worked in business development for years and the most valuable resource you could ever use is leveraging other people.  You have been working in different sectors of international business, so you have to use these resources to your advantage.  Once you get your first contract, you better work your tail off for them.  If the relationship is strong, you have to leverage that to gain other clients.  Good luck!
