What is the best way to get your business noticed and in the public eye without paying for it.

Hi gratitudewave,

I think the fastest way to get noticed is to contact a reporter (who covers your area of products and services) at a local media venue directly. Offer yourself as an expert and provide an "exclusive" story about the benefits you have to offer the local community.
With one phone call, you can secure a feature article that builds credibility. Plus, you can use this media mention in your marketing activities.

Hope this helps,
Melanie

The fastest way is for Oprah to talk about your business on one of her shows. Other than that, there isn`t a fast way.

So...the real question is, how do you get Oprah to talk about your business?

Believe it or not, this is not impossible.

If you can find a unique story angle (maybe a client who has gone through a health transformation) that fits into Oprah`s style, you may get the attention of one of the producers. Also check the "Oprah" site (http://www2.oprah.com/index.jhtml) on a regular basis to see what she is looking for on upcoming shows.

And even if you don`t get on Oprah, you`ll probably generate buzz with other media members. Maybe one of Oprah`s producers will see one of these stories and give you a call?

Aside from Oprah, there are some other great ways to get your new business noticed. They are not necessarily fast ways, mind you, but they are effective and either free or low-cost.

I recently launched a new local business (back in March, actually),  and the first thing we started out with was hardcore SEO. Before we started making public announcements, I wanted to be sure that if someone decided to look us up online, they could find an abundance of information. So we really optimized our site, sent out a few good-quality press releases and started a blog (which we also optimized with care). This didn`t cost us a cent, and we were soon ranking in the top few positions in Google for our desired search terms.

Once the online image was  taken care of, we did a bit of pro bono work to get some samples and testimonials going, and then we got heavy into physical networking. We looked for networking groups in the area that were up our alley, joined, and started participating as much as we could without trying to sell anything. This was, again, free (with the exception of gas & maybe a cup of coffee). We even started a networking group ourselves, offering free insight into our area of expertise through seminars & workshops and things like drawings for free advertising for the members. That has grown into a beast all its own! It was not free, but fairly inexpensive. Since then, we`ve taken every possible opportunity to meet up with other professionals to find out how we can help each other. As a result, the word-of-mouth has really taken on a life of its own.

Online, we continue to do lots of social networking, we post videos on popular sites, we create white papers for potential customers to download, we write articles, we comment on blogs written by others etc. All of that is free. The only thing it takes is time. There are no quick fixes when it comes to building your business image & reputation. One wrong move can mess things up before you really even get started. Taking time to build your reputation properly will ensure that things run smoothly (and that you`re able to tap into the largest source of free marketing, word-of-mouth) in the future.

I know you asked for a free way to advertise your business. This isn`t free, but it`s very cheap compared to other options. Use your vehicle. Purchase decals (usually less than $200) for your vehicle (Rear Window, Side Panels, Side Windows) with your company name, logo, web address, and contact information.

You are now a billboard on wheels and the exposure your company will get is priceless. I just ordered 3 decals for my Ford Escape (Rear Window and Both Front Doors) for less than $200. I should have them in 3 days and they will professionally apply them.

It`s not free, but very cheap in the long run

Good Luck

Hi,

Do well by doing  good.  Help a local charity, preferably in some  hands-on way.  Then send the media a press release to announce the results.

Conduct a survey. Since  your name is Gratitude, ask people what they are grateful for and then send a release to the media with the results.

Offer a free class, perhaps teach people how to make jewelry.  Send a free notice to the calendar of events in the local paper.

Good luck with  your new venture.

I think the best way to get free promotion is using the SNS, such as Facebook and Twitter. They help you get connected & socialize with people, which then help spread your product/service out there. Also, a well organized SNS activity can generate limitless visits and participates within a short period, giving the opportunity for your brand to be know all over the nation over night! It's somehow a method combine marketing & PR at the same time.
