Janelle,
How do you find buyers while living in Indonesia? With my
limited experience, buyers (or wholesalers) are not in any
specific place. For example, if I want to fish a specific type of
fish, I just go to the area they live and breed. But buyers and
sellers are all around us. The problem isn`t how to find them.
The problem is how to connect to them.

Environments like SUN offer an easy level of introduction. Then
trust begins being built. Then purchases happen. While living
in Indonesia, I suggest staying connected with the online
community. But also, you could hire someone to represent you
here in America while you are where ever you are…
Compensation to the representative could be negotiated in
several different ways.

One this is for sure. You must have a good wholesale price
structure to create interest. Then you must fulfill the desired
need to the retailer of your product (fit their style of inventory
items). I would also say, do not get thousands of Reps in a
location. If you have a good Rep, they`ll work the market. If
there are too many Reps, all the Reps are starving for
business.

I am sure you can find a way to connect with people. Those
people will direct you to others if you express what you are
looking for. As you have noticed. I am a buyer looking for
products. :)

Hi Janelle,

I used to work in Out of Asia and also Flying Elephants Inc.
Vincent is right, the right thing to do for now is to have good connections with buyer and try to maintain it, while in the same time, you should also make sure the quality of the goods you import met your buyer standard.  This is also very very important ( I believe that good quality products is one of the key to grow the business besides, of course, good pricing)

I do know a couple who live and work with a retail chain in US (its only 4 people in their operations, including their 2 assistants) and yet they supplied more than 10x40` containers in one year and still growing. please note that they supply for ONE retail chai only.
I believe 1-2 good retailers would be enough for start.

I think, once you found good vendor in indonesia they can help you alot on achieve these. they can make a sample for you (based on your buyer specific design), they can send you color swatches or material and any informations you may need.
and like i said before, they can taking care and really watch out the quality of mass products for you. And you can focus on marketing.

hope this helps, and Vincent, I will send you email today. thanks!
