Hello from the world of .com businesses!
There are a host of business on line today who are run by owner operators.
We are not freelance, or are we?
Ok, let us look at my business for example.
I am a woman business owner who dose most of the work by my self. I do get support from family, I would not call them employees due to the fact I don`t pay them. When they earn money it is on a contract basis.
So, if they are free lance then what dose that make me? I see my self as a business owner.
I have all of the same responsibilities to my small company and it`s clients as any other brick and mortar company would have. My good reputation keeps me in clients. My website is my store front and my logo brands everything I do.
I do not have anyone but my clients to answer to. That could make me freelance, But even owners of businesses who have employees fall into that category!
I started this business with my own money. I do not have investors to keep happy. Every penny I make is mine. Minus what I pay in taxes and put right back into the business of course. I have made money every year since I started this company in 2001. I had to supplement my income the first five years by working a wage paying job, along with running this business, but those days are finally over. I am doing the work.
I think more than anything else it has to do with your own vision for where you are going! I knew when I started that I would be doing this full time. Just like I forsee that I will have full time employees in the future. I always look ahead.
I own a business because I have the vision that I own it. To call me freelance would undermine my business plan.
Are you freelance? What types of goals do you have and are you setting them into motion?
Only you can state where you are and what you are doing.
If you own you own company then you have to tell others that you do. The way you project yourself has allot to do with your goals.
If you are freelance then be proud of it! Any way you look at it you are doing the work.
