Mr. Whathisname I-know-it-all, Are you sure you aren`t a trucker? There is a wonderful saying within the trucking industry ...

Arguing with a trucker is like wrestling with a pig ...

after a while you realize the pig enjoys it.

Bye-bye!!

Google, I`m afraid will (already has) become profit oriented and really forget its mission to offer the best information without commercialism.

It`s what being on the stock market means.

Wilfred,

Having worked on a farm as kid with pigs I never much minded wrestling with them when they escaped their proper places.

This is not a personal thing. As a web designer I regularly come up against the belief that the web is some kind of magical place where money appears intstantly and flows wildly into bank accounts.

If this is not bad enough many of my colleagues take advantage of this mistaken perception by willfully misleading people to get their money.

The web is a wonderful thing, and it is a terrfically powerful tool when it is used well. It is also important not to forget the tried and true.

Personally I think it would be great if you would tell the rest of the story. How much work you did getting things going, all the ways you have built your business, etc. If your business is as successful as you say there has to be more than what you have said and you owe it to people to give them all the information.

Tony what is your story? Of course Google is for profit. Are you against profit? You don`t like what they have helped do for the world? Not to mention MSN, YAHOO, and more? Nothing is perfect but would you prefer our friends in Washington run the internet?

Rob:

You are right. I just wax for the days ( 4 years ago) when there wasn`t so much commercial info. Look when I used to search google I would get very useful pages. Now I definitely see more repeated web pages and paid for info coming up in my regular searches.

I know google is doing some really neat things with google trends and other cool stuff. More power too them for profits! They deserve it more than any, but you have to admit it is not the same google post IPO.

P.s.: I am the former Director of Communications for the Mass Restaurant Association.

Good work on the website buisness model. The restaurant industry needs good businesses like yours. Let me know if I can be any help in the Massachusetts region.

I am blown away by all the space Yahoo dedicates to advertising. That is okay, though, because it will either work or push people back to Google or MSN. Competition is good.

I am always looking for people to sell. I am also adding a new model where people could resell our very inexpensive model themselves. We have a company that asked us to do that. Not sure if they are good with their follow through, but it is an interesting idea.

As you can see I put a premium on being very clear how to grow a business with a website. I have lots of restaurants and we do great work for them. LOL, I was out last week with one of my owners who is a little slow with follow through....I put his website on his marquee myself and now the traffic is coming to his site!
