It's been more than 11 weeks that I have submitted one of my sites to DMOZ but still can't find listing of my site. It is written in their rules that depending on the activity level of the editors in respective category area, it may take up to 2 weeks or more for your site to be reviewed. When can we expect the listing to be confirmed?

I see. It really takes time more than I expected. I wonder why and yet most of the people are fond of DMOZ.

DMOZ isn't worth the money IMO. Yes you can submit it but theres no guarantee of acceptance.

Have you checked to see if there's even an editor assigned to the category you're looking to submit to? DMOZ used to be much more valuable as Yahoo used it as the basis of its directory (as well as numerous other sites).

That said, that's become less valuable as Yahoo isn't a human-edited directory anymore and is a regular search engine.

Many of the categories don't even have editors assigned as DMOZ has had difficulties in attracting people to take on that role for the past few years (there were even scandals of payoffs for certain sites to be given priority in years past, but they had cracked down a little), so as long as that's the case it's doubtful there will be any movement.

If there isn't an editor assigned, I suggest you apply to become the editor of said category. It's acceptable for someone who wants their site in that category to be an editor as well, as long as they admit that in the application process.

Good luck!

DMOZ is a waste of time in most cases.  I have applied my 2 websites at least 5 times each within the last 3 years with absolutely NO response.

I even applied to be an editor in an area where there were none.....denied!

A bunch of elitists if you ask me.  Now they are not nearly as significant as they once were.

I suggest making application and moving on with no expectations of ever hearing from DMOZ.  Then, if they do accept your site...Great!  If not...then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think they only accept high PR website and you have to wait the editor to update the listing for a very long time. Also theres no guarantee of acceptance.

Best advice for working with DMOZ is to:

1) make sure the site meets the criteria
2) carefully prepare your submission
3) submit to the most appropriate category
4) sit back and wait

There is no time frame for DMOZ to act on submissions. The best thing you can do is continue to develop content that will encourage an editor to seek out your site.

Hello All,

I have also submitted my website to DMOZ and i got approval within 3 weeks. It depends on your website and the category which you have selected for the particular website.
