   Hi,
I`m wondering if anyone has any experience selling to small boutiques?  What is the best approach to find buyers.  My first idea was to set up a booth at a gift show, but I missed the date by about 2 weeks.  If anyone has any tips how best to approach the small retailers, I will look forward to hearing your advice!

Thanks,
Elizabeth

You could try hiring someone to do the legwork and pay them per sale
You could try cold calling (although I am personally not in favor of it)
You could try local advertising or billboarding (though I`m not terribly fond of that either)
You could consult a marketing expert/company

I could probably give better advice if I knew what type of product or service you`re selling
Good luck though

Gift shows are big business - where the buyers are and where they
are prepared to buy.  You can fall on your face if your product isn`t
aligned with market trends.

A general rule is the more you spend on a tradeshow to get space
the more money you will make - but your mileage will vary.

Elizabeth, what is your product?

The gift marts are great as they are only open to shop owners.

In regards to small boutiques, it has been my exerience that for the small privately owned specialty/gift shops, most of the owners are pretty hands on and are usually the buyers. I put together a sampling of our product with our wholesale info and drop it off to them. I have only done this with a few and have been successful, most of our buyers find us at the shows.
