I will be looking for investors for my business in a short while. I am completely new to this so I have many questions but I will focus on the following question:

Would investors be more apt to want to loan the money in exchange for a share of the company or could I ask for a convertable debt note. I just don`t want to give up control of the company (who does!).

The startup costs are 50k & by the 3rd year we are projected to make 1 MIL in sales.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I am in this all alone! Thanks guys...

elsizzle,

Using a convertible note to bring in early investors can be a very viable approach. However, one should examine the implications and details before proceeding.

While I understand the reasons, “losing control” shouldn’t be your only concern when bringing in equity investors and selling securities.
